Hi redhogbill.
And i would like to ad this; Superior company means superior ads and superior cameras and equipment! Plus 49.2% of the market as of 2013! You would think other companies might be more proactive in the markets of today? I guess word of mouth does not work well any more! IMHO!!!!
By the way I like those photos at your site nice going Bill

How often do you really use the 50mm? What about the rest of the Nikon lenses that you miss out on?

I'm sorry. I am really not getting into this. I thought you were kidding. (See reply about tears on my iPad.). I don't know anything about Nikon lenses. I am sure yours are great. Bab

And I'm STILL laughing!😄 😄 👻 🙈 🚽 😝 💋 ❗️ 🚀 💣
SharpShooter: Thank you for all the laughter generated by this turkey of a thread you hatched over a week ago; I never expected it to have the life of the Energizer Bunny.

Nice tripod, but I bet you still have issues with vibration when you press the shutter! Does the lens have really good VR/IS?

Hey Y’all “Gear-heads”! Rather than just slinging around brand names and other such hyperbole; where’s the research, history and science behind those two prominent Japanese camera manufacturers. For example; did any of you know that at one time Nikon made lenses for Canon cameras as they did for Bronica and others? Does anyone realize that a prominent Japanese camera manufacturer buys it’s lenses from German sources? What about the fact that Hoya makes filters and lens parts for just about every camera and lens manufacturer? Do any of y’all know what the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have to do with the quality of Japanese lenses and that some glass used in lens making have low levels or radioactivity. Hint: Rare Earth. There are more similarities in Nikon’s and Canon’s lens designs than differences.

The Japanese manufacturers are smart folks and oftentimes buy from each other rather than tool up to make things that they can obtain form other makers and purchase at a known price and not having to worry about unexpected labor costs and other variables.

Does anyone know why Canon was able to produce an f/.95 lens for one of their early rangefinder models and Lica has an f/1.0 optic the likes of which no other lenses of that speed are available for most modern DSLRs. I think one of them (an f/.95 is now around- I heard rumors???).

I gotta say; Although my Canon is my main DSLR for general use, I held on to my D-700 stuff just because I can use some of my old favorites; A Nikor 50mm macro (sharp as hell), my Nikor 24mm (my favorite for photojournalistic work) and a and get ready for this- my Medical Nikor with a built in ring light! I purchased my 135mm Canon soft focus before I had a body for it. My points are these: In many instances there is little or no difference between the 2 main competitive companies and I am sure, as history shows, there may still be some cross-breeding in the mix. This also proves that one system does not address everything you may want to do and it not a bad idea to continue with a system where you are already well invested in high quality glass.

For “Team Nikon”: Does anyone know which famous photographer helped popularize the brand back in the day and who was mainly responsible for importing the first Nikons and which model was involved?

For “Team Canon” Which model was the most durable and many of which are still in use by film photographers.

If y’all are gonna keep this thread alive it might as well bring to the surface some valuable, interesting and informative real data to help all photographers and buyers, camera collectors and of course all the combatants some real ammo for their “battles” and true history for their education.

So what do y’all think?

Ed

Hey Y’all “Gear-heads”! Rather than just slinging... (show quote)

Ed, hey, we've actually already had that discussion. Maybe somebody that knows where it is can link it for you. Maybe 2 months ago.
BUT, even though it was quite informative and a great history primer, it was, in reality, just posted by a jealous Nikon shooter!!
