Hi Sawdust3. I have found that people usually aren't upset when you shoot with flash at weddings because they are expecting that photographers will be shooting all around them. My experience with lighting in some venues is much as you describe - all over the place. Having an on or off camera flash covered with a good diffuser usually gets me perfectly acceptable shots but you do have to be reasonably close to the subjects. Venues frequently have very high ceilings so bouncing off them doesn't work. At one particularly bad venue, I had my sister follow me around with a second flash on a monopod which was triggered by the flash on my camera. Worked like a charm. If you really aren't sure of exposure settings, today's DSLRs have an Auto setting that produces good results. My Rebels (T1i and T3i) work well on Auto. I know seasoned photographers rarely own up to using the Auto setting but it will give you better results than shooting at exposure settings you're not sure of. Good luck on your next event.
Yes, it's all made with cotton fabric and thread. For the photos, I first digitally "painted" them so they would look as though they blended well on the fabric. Then I printed them with my pigment-based inkjet printer onto commercial "prepared for printing" cotton sheets. I like the sheets made by Jacquard.
For the strip pieces with writing, I treated batik cotton with Bubblejet, temporarily ironed the cotton to freezer paper and trimmed the edges cleanly before running the sheets through the printer.
Notice that the text said "5D Mark III/Nikon D600/Nikon D3S etc." The "etc" suggests they were only using a couple of popular cameras as examples. I imagine it works with any digital camera.
Thanks Erv. It was fun doing it.
This is the 3'x4' quilt I made for my son and his wife for Christmas. I used photos I shot at Xcaret in Mexico of the Mayan re-enactors and some wildlife. We were all together there at Christmas time a couple of years ago. I manipulated the images in Smart Photo Editor and then added embroidery to them. It now brightens up their basement wall.

Phil, these are fantastic. I think tigers are the most beautiful of all animals. Love No. 1.
Found myself unexpectedly near a park last week and was surprised to find nature thinks it's still Fall. Followed this little guy around for a few minutes - he was surprisingly obliging.

Same little guy happy to pose
How about teaching? You have years of experience to share with newbies. I know that in my neck of the woods, cities and school night/day classes employ photographers for various courses.
Thanks Brian and Habdab. The colour of the Hibiscus threw me. I was only familiar with the ones which are plain and brightly coloured.
Anyone know how to reset an Epson NX510?
Message in the window says "A printer error has occurred. Turn off the printer, then press On button to turn on.
Of course, this doesn't work.
There is nothing stuck in the printer - the jammed paper came out clean.
I sympathize. I have had to ditch two printers after paper jams. Yesterday, I pulled the jammed paper out carefully and there were no ripped off pieces left in the machine. But all I got was an error message. Epson tells me that the "unknown error" means the printer needs to be replaced. Useless piece of machinery in my opinion.
I think it's wonderful. She looks like a happy woman.
