I have the Metabones adapter for my Sony A7r and can use all my Canon lenses, both full frame and EF-S lenses with good results. Automatic functions all work although auto-focus is a little slower.

Let's not forget that the shutter is in front of the sensor as is the AA filter on most cameras AND a protective cover behind that!
The sensor if it has a charge is NOT a junkyard magnet.
If the sensor has a charge the dust has to have the opposite charge.
Are silica particles inert? What exactly IS dust that it will take a charge.
Is earth a conductor or a non-conductor?? Just asking. ;-)

I'd like to see some sort of technical paper from ... (show quote)

Airborne dust particles may be electrically conductive or nonconductive depending upon the properties of the particle. A particle becomes charged via a process known as triboelectrification, which occurs as it separates from a surface. A particle may be charged positive, negative or may be neutral.

A charged surface emits an electric field some distance from the surface depending upon the magnitude of the charge, size of the surface and proximity of other conductive structures to the charged surface. When a charged particle enters into that field it may be attracted to the charged surface or repelled depending upon the polarity of the surface and the charged particle. Opposite charges attract, like charges repel. An uncharged or neutral particle, if it has any conductivity, can be influenced by the electric field of the charged surface and become polarized, and will also attract to the charged surface. Once a particle becomes attached to a surface due to electrostatic forces it can be very difficult to remove so it is best to try to avoid that happening as much as possible, and practical.

Earth is electrically conductive. It is an infinite source and receptacle for electrons.

This is a very condensed explanation so I hope it helps answer your questions.

My last visit to Rome was about 7 years ago. I spent a week walking all over the tourist areas of city, day and night carrying a SLR and a couple of lenses and never once felt unsafe. Didn't feel any less safe than walking around Philadelphia. Actually, maybe a little more safe than Philly because I know Philly.
Just use the same common sense you would in any other large city. Before I went I remember reading about the crime in Rome, i.e. pickpockets and etc which made me a little paranoid but never saw any of that. A great city to visit and non-stop photo ops.

If you are such a great pilot why not change places with him and let's all see how well you do in that situation. Apparently you are the expert Harrier pilot!

I have the A7r and the Sony/Zeiss FE24-70 F4 lens and I am very happy with it. I bought it for the smaller size, less weight than my SLRs and FF high resolution files. I also got the Metabones adapter so I can also use all my Canon FF and APSC lenses until I decide what other Sony or Zeiss lenses I might add. For ultra wide shots I am using my Canon EF-S 10-22 and for longer reach I am using my Canon EF 70-200L F2.8 IS and EF 70-300 IS lenses. All lenses function with auto-focus, aperture control and IS, although auto-focus is slow which doesn't bother me because I don't shoot action stuff. The longer Canon lenses are a bit awkward on the small Sony body due to size and weight but I plan on eventually adding more Sony FE lenses.

I have been a dedicated Canon shooter for years and shoot APSC format with a selection of Canon lenses. I was getting tired of lugging a 30 pound backpack of gear around and also wanted better resolution so I bought the Sony A7r and the Sony Zeiss FE24-70 F4 lens which I am extremely happy with so far. I also purchased the Metabones adapter so I can use all my Canon lenses (EF-S as well as my FF lenses) until I decide which other Sony lenses I will add. The adapter works quite well but slow to autofocus especially with the Canon EF 70-200 F2.8 IS, but I don't shoot action stuff and I really like the manual focus anyway with the A7r. My plan is to eventually sell my Canon lenses as I add a couple more Sony FE lenses as the Canon lenses still result in a pretty big, heavy combination. In a nutshell, I am happy I made the change and will achieve my goal of high resolution, smaller and lighter.

Yup, I was big-time into building my own rifles for long-range shooting, hand loading, handguns and etc., and got interested in photography in the late 60's. As a young guy I couldn't afford both so started replacing my shooting equipment with photo gear and a custom built darkroom in my first new home. Never any regrets and would much rather browse the meat counter than kill anything now.

One of the responses you received here on the forum was completely uncalled for and that person is obviously not an accomplished photographer. Your question was certainly valid and warrants an answer.

I have been heavily involved in photography for over 40 years and grew-up shooting 35mm, medium format and 4 x 5 sheet film and learned to appreciate the sharpness difference between the various formats. I have been shooting Canon APSC for years and was never really totally happy with fine detail compared to the larger format films I was used to.

I recently purchased the Sony A7s FF format mirror less camera and am thrilled with the detail I have been able to achieve right out of the camera with no PP sharpening. So far I have not processed any images in photoshop or printed due to other time commitments but the fine detail compared to my other cameras is immediately obvious on the my MAC retina display. The A7s does have a few drawbacks but none of them are a concern for me as I do not shoot sports or fast action. It does have a noisy shutter curtain as outlined in all the reviews but no worse than the Hasselblad that I used to use with film. I have only purchased the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 F4 lens so far but also purchased the Metabones adapter so I can use all my Canon lenses as well.

So, in conclusion, I am extremely happy with the detail from images I have shot so far and also achieved my goal of lightening my load with a camera body about half the weight and 2/3 the size of my SLR's.

Good luck and I hope the above helps.
