Shooting vs. Shooting
Several years ago I decided to sell my guns and purchase camera equipment with the proceeds. Rather than continue shooting wildlife with my guns, I would rather be shooting wildlife with my camera. Seemed to make more sense to me. Anyone else on the forum experience that transformation?
I still shoot both ways. I don't like eating venison paper prints. :XD: :XD:    :XD:
Yes, I for one am like you. Have a great appreciation for sportsman and what they do for hunting and fishing, but I could no longer bring myself to hunt for kill. Now I hunt more than ever, just use cameras in place of rifles and shotguns. Love it, and am having a blast!! Mike J.

I do both, cameras and guns (pistols) for target shooting only. Cameras for anything that get in front of the lens!!
I have more guns then cameras but only shoot wildlife with a camera. That way I still come home with a trophy (my photos) and the animal gets to live on, continue with it's life, and be there for someone else to potentially enjoy seeing. It's a win/win for everybody.

Not me, I like to hunt and take pictures.

1981 for me, sold my last rifle after hunting season that year. Started hunting with a Canon after that. Switched to Nikon in 1988. I have bagged MANY trophies since that time.

when i was a kid i used to purchase bricks of 500 cartridges. I would head to the woods on weekends and come home only after there were 500 dead critters on the ground.
I finally became good enough to shoot paper targets and in the past 50 years have only killed two animals, both by accident.

Sold my Harley 3 years ago and gave up riding to focus on a safer hobby.
I still have all of my guns and those of my father, but I gave up hunting wildlife with a gun nearly 50 years ago. Quite honestly I have never missed it. It was a hobby I was glad to leave behind. Now if I can just escape some of my other expensive hobbies, maybe I can afford a few new lenses and bodies. Hunting with a camera is so much more rewarding.
A long time ago my dad took everything off his shotgun and mounted a camera on the stock and took pictures of the ducks and geese as I shot. Now, as of three years ago, I shoot only with a camera

After learning that the rule of thirds doesn't work with hunting, I switched to photography.
Seriously, where are the guns with optical shooting stabilization?

I still have my Harley but have been thinking more about letting it go for the past couple of years. Too many drunks and tourists (and drunk tourists) on the roads around here so I figure I'm tempting fate every time I'm on it lately.
