Used guided transform in LR to adjust angle of image then in PS opened both as layers, transform to enlarge background, select subject on people and masked them from background
Manual f/8, 1/30, auto iso. Turn on image stabilizer (lens, camera or both). Rain (dust) cover. Shoot short burst to improve chances camera shaking has settled. Raw, but tungsten white balance so histogram and blinkies accurate.
The rgb histograms and blinkies are based on a jpeg in camera conversion of the RAW, it can become inaccurate if you (or the camera) set the wrong white balance, effects (like vivid), etc., not sure if color space set has a similar effect
Take (or rent) a camera that has the best high ISO performance. Learn proper steady camera holding. Experiment at 1/8 1/15 1/30 with camera/lens stabilization on to see what you can hand hold and still be sharp. Then set camera on RAW, manual at that shutter speed, set aperture for the desired acceptable focus area and auto ISO.
There is a sensor near the viewfinder that senses proximity and turns it on, it could be blocked
If you use an IR cut filter on the lens it will be as if you did no conversion
Move the flash on a stand very close to where you expect to take photo and trigger remotely, this will give it a very low power and very short flash duration to freeze action
Put the camera in a rain sleeve or quart modified zip lock and bring a blower
I shot in the 14 to 24 range full frame, so 11-20 apc sounds right
Briot has a very good one
