Going to photograph Ccanyons in Arizona in Oct. For upper Antelope, Do I need a flash? If not, what ISO /settings would work(24-105mm/F4)? If a tripod is allowed, how long to expose?

you will not need a flash. I don't think that they are doing photography tours any longer so you will not be able to take a tripod. You might check out secret canyon as an alternate. There is a good bit of light in the slot especially toward the sky, your guide will be able to tell you about camera settings when you get there. One thing a wide lens is a must a prime is a better choice because of less moving parts, and do not plan on changing lenses while you are in the slot due to the dust.

Flash is or will be useless. Unless you are in the very expensive "photographer tour", tripod is not recommended in any way (saw one tripod tripped over and fell down on our non-photographer tour; the camera landed in the sand). 24-105 f4 will be adequate, but you may have to allow higher ISO and up to a stop under exposure depending on tour time and how dark it is in the back of the canyon. Be sure to take the camera away from your eye and just enjoy the full beauty of the canyon from time to time.

No more photo tours = no tripod. Flash not needed. Getting tougher to get shots with the crowds. Used to do bracketing on tripods, but no more. A good VR camera will help. Shoot wide open and fast enough for no hand held blur and let ISO go automatic would be my suggestion. Deal with noise in post.

If you have a 14mm, 16mm, or 21mm prime these would be my preferences over your 24-105. Regardless of your lens go with great expectations and they'll be fulfilled.

Take (or rent) a camera that has the best high ISO performance. Learn proper steady camera holding. Experiment at 1/8 1/15 1/30 with camera/lens stabilization on to see what you can hand hold and still be sharp. Then set camera on RAW, manual at that shutter speed, set aperture for the desired acceptable focus area and auto ISO.

You can bring a monopod, which can be helpful for low light. Practice vertical panning with your phone too, can get some very effective images that way.

It's not posted, but I asked if I could get a private tour for a $100 and I got one. April and October are the months you want to visit. The canyon shot was at f14 .6 sec ISO200 with a tripod. Try to go around noon then you will have the colums of light. Also while you are in the area goto horseshoe bend at sunset.

Looks like you can get a tripod allowed tour:

We were at Antelope Canyon X last April (2022) and they had photography tours
https://www.antelopecanyon-x.com/
We did not take the photography tour because we went with several other non-photographers. The guide we had was no help with camera settings unless you were using a cell phone. There was a photography tour following us and I asked the guide about camera settings. All he said was set white balance to “cloudy”. Since I was shooting raw, I left white balance on auto. Overall, the slot canyon is magnificent. I echo the thoughts to take a wide angle lens.

I prefer Lower antelope. The chief and his sister do competing tours, one goes up the other down the canyon in fairly large groups. Very hard to get non obstructed shots. The 'sun rays' are intensified when the guide throws sand up in the air. As suggested above try other less populated canyons.

Regarding upper antelope canyon. No tripods, no stopping, a flash will actually destroy the essence of the canyon. I was there a few times, the last in 2018. Up to 400 people per hour in the upper and 200 in the lower. If you do go, set your iso as high as you can tolerate ( a lot of the Ai is really good at removing noise ), use the widest angle lens possible and keep your fstop such that you can get about 1//80 of a second.
I would check out Horseshoe Bend and slot canyon tours ( or whatever they call themselves now ), ask them if they still do the Secret Canyon Photo Tour although it’s called something else now. $150 but with 2 hrs in the canyon, groups of 6 or less. My group was 4, we did 2 1/2 hours in the canyon plus a half hour front and back getting to and from. Great photographic opportunity.

There are a number of slots over there. I would stop at the nearest ranger station and ask about them and access. Some are on Govt land and you can simply go....now you might need rope skills for a few of them but they are all unique and really worth seeing.

Heading to Page, AZ next Tuesday. Hooked up with Taadidiin Tours to photo in Cardiac Canyon. Take a look at their website, tripods permitted, and the "tour" is up to 5 hours.
