Well my windows does just fine. Click on a raw photo and it opens up for viewing just fine. Your windows must be broken.

You must have some app installed that you are not aware of. Unmodified Windows 10 DOES NOT READ RAW.

That's not Windows reading RAW. Its a PROGRAM you are using in Windows that can read RAW. Or an add-in to an editing program....GIMP for example. Without addin it does not read RAW.

You open raws just as you would any other format in any software assuming you have that camera's profile in the software. We can advise you better if you tell us what program you are using. The operating system has nothing to do with your question.

The operating DOES have something to do with the question. Mac's Photos app can read RAW. Windows' built-in Photos app cannot. A program with RAW capability is required.
Canon gives you, free , Digital Photo Professional, a very good RAW (and JPEG etc.)editing system.

When would YOU use Glossy, Luster, or Matte papers?

Why?

(I'm an old Kodachrome guy, so this is all Greek, to me.)

Photography is an art as well as a technical process. Printing a wedding portrait is different than printing a hotrod engine compartment. It's a VISUAL thing. You have to develop a feel for it.

Paper surfaces (and textures) lend different moods to the image, as well as detail clarity. It was the same with film enlarging papers. Kodak and others made photo papers in many different surface sheens and embossed textures. Now we have inkjet papers in the same variety.

Get yourself high gloss and matte paper and you can compare your own images.

This is my first Canon camera and it is making me crazy. Does not act like I expect it to
or maybe I just do not understand this Canon.

In Tv mode I can set the shutter speed and camera sets aperture

In Av mode I can set aperture and the camera sets shutter speed

In M mode I can set both shutter speed and aperture

Now in P mode it is suppose to set both shutter speed and aperture.
But I can turn top dial and change aperture and the lower dial changes compensation + or -

Is this normal? From what I remember, my Nikon D700 controlled everything in P mode.
This is my first Canon camera and it is making me ... (show quote)

When in P mode, turning the top (Main) dial doesn't just change aperture. It changes to different speed/aperture COMBINATIONS that give equivalent exposure. So you can still choose a preferred aperture or shutter speed for depth-of-field control or motion-stopping as you desire and the camera maintains correct exposure.

My Canon Pixma MG5420 printer/scanner, not a current model but I got it used cheaply, is not a "high-end" unit with eight+ colors. It does have three colors and two blacks....a dye black and a pigment black. The printer decides how to use the two blacks depending on what it's printing...documents, photos.... It also uses the color inks in B&W prints.

It does a beautiful job with B&W photos. You don't need a "top-shelf" printer, like say the Canon Pro-series, to do nice work. Or eight colors. The Pixma also does a very good scanning job.

It's up to you how you want & need to spend your money.

The EF-S 10-22 is one of the USM lens capable of full manual focus while set on AF.

If you use back-button-focus (BBF), you can leave the lens set for AF all the time, and use the BBF button when you want to autofocus.

DON'T use the BBF button, and focus manually. Autofocus will not work when pressing the shutter release.

USM lenses that have focusing scales....in a window or an LCD focus display....are the ones you can do this with. Leave'em on AF and use BBF to freely choose how you want to focus.

Yes all my smaller cards work fine, thanks for your reply

Do what crushr13 said. SDXC cards are not universally readable in card readers, computers or cameras. When new technology comes along, devices that are older than the technology can have trouble with it.

I have know idea? The Dell is older and the iMac is a 2015. Is there some on the computer that would tell me?

I use lots of different SD cards in my multiple laptops' internal card readers. Laptops are 8-12 years old. Without being able to track specifics, I can say that some cards have not worked in some computers, while other cards work fine in the same computer.

Have you tried smaller, slower cards in the computers you are having trouble with?

For the Dell at least, check the Dell <support.dell.com> site to see if there is an SD card driver for your computer that is newer than the computer. It could possibly make the reader more capable.

I have a Fuji X-T30. I would like to be able to take macro's using my 18-55 Fuji Lens. I have never used extension tubes or close up lenses with any of my cameras interchangeable lens cameras (in the past, Nikon SLR or DSLR). I am able to take fairly good close ups with my Sony rx100 m3.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated on extension tubes v. close up lenses. Also advice on Fuji extension tubes/lenses v. generic brands.

An extension tube is preferable because it does not add additional lens elements in the light path to subtratct from the properties of your lens. And you don't have to keep an extension tube clean like you do a filter.

But closeup lenses are cheaper to buy, especially just to experiment with macro. So, as the old saying goes, "You pays your money and takes your choice."

I have a Canon 80D which is about 3 years old and has the original Canon battery which came with it. I fear the battery is failing because after charging for over 24 hrs, the camera reports a 60% charge and after taking 80 photos I have only 2 bars left.

Here is my question. I was ready to pay the $63 B&H wants for an QEM battery. Several people have recommended I try a Wasabi battery. A single battery is $10.99 vs $63. Now I know when things sound too good to be true, they usually are. There has to be a reason the OEM is so much more money.

Anyone have any experience with Wasabi batteries who can shed some light on this?

Thanks to all who respond

There are several aftermarket batteries that get recommended by folks here all the time. Wasabi is one of them.

I use Kastars, which I buy on eBay, only directly from KastarUSA. They work well on my Canon 60D, 40D and 50D. You can buy several for the price of one OEM, so even if one could say they don't last as long in-camera, you can have a pocketful of spares.

Just came home today. Have to begin looking at photos tomorrow to see if it affects the pictures.
Thank you,

Sounds like the spot is coating or glass damage. Nothing there to clean.

Just like dust or dirt, stuff on the front of a lens, inside or on the back does not show up distinctly on images. Even a crack in a lens doesn't. What DOES happen with enough surface or interior contamination is maybe some haziness and loss of contrast from light scattering, and loss of light transmission.

Do you see anything in the viewfinder? If not enough to see it there, go ahead and happily use the lens.

I just ordered from www.wish.com a 48 led ring light from andoer. It will take a month to get it, just wondering if anybody else has ordered from wish.

Just went to the link for wish.com. Didn't go past the sign-in/register page. The site has the look and feel of a Chinese outfit....a lot of junky stuff with pretty Asian and Anglo models.

Like other similar "businesses" I have experienced, what you get is likely not worth what you paid for it. If delivery time is a month, it's is most probably coming from China. And no recourse if not satisfied, except maybe paying return postage to China to get a refund.

For an electronic device, better buy from someplace domestic with a U.S. address, a good return policy, and contact info for customer service.

Can't help but I made the same mistake. Free upgrade to windows 10. Lots of differences but time will tell. Good luck.

Instead of being negative about Windows 10, why don't you spend your time exploring it and learning how it works? There are so many good things about it. If you were a decent user of Windows 7, there's no good reason you can't effectively use Windows 10.

And NO, I am not a Microsoft employee. Just a user who is not AFRAID of an operating system.
