In the past I've sold some stuff locally via Craig's List, where the guy shows up with cash (or doesn't show up, you know how that goes). But now I want to sell some old cameras stuff, and some other items, that may require a larger audience to find a buyer.

What sort of payment method do you guys use to sell stuff to individuals, that has to be shipped? I know there's Paypal, but is there anything else that's safe and easy?

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned using a polarizer to help minimize unwanted reflections.

All 4 of my kids were in the high school marching band, winning many regional and national championships (King Philip from Wrentham MA). But Holy S**t these ladies are a step, no, an entire flight of stairs above what KP did.

Sodapop mentioned drum corps. Check out Top Secret:

You were lucky. We were in the area in early July and despite being in several usually good viewing locations, never saw it. Weather plus smoke from the numerous forest fires were to blame.

I wanted a picture that sort of summed up a convention I attended (Car club. mid coast Maine), but in the hundreds of photos I shot, nothing really stood out. But I did have a photo of a car on a scenic hilltop with an uninspiring background, and a photo of the scenic harbor taken from a couple hundred feet away. Hmmm... both were taken minutes apart, facing southeast, looking down at about the same angle... So I did a background replacement and submitted the photo to a national car hobby magazine with my article, telling their editors what I'd done. It got published. Even the National Geographic publishes assembled pictures, so why not?

I have a Canon XSi (450) APS-C camera (12mpix), which is now a decade old. It came with the two kit lenses, 18 - 55 and 55-250. If I bought a newer APS-C body, would these lenses be sharp enough to complement the higher pixel count? Or have the equivalent kit lenses been improved over the years as the pixel count went up? Has anyone had any experience with this?

I’ll be happy with a horse drawn buggy. Advantages: save on gasoline and can propose to my wife every day we go out for a ride. Disadvantages: steer clear of the rear.

Yes, but you don't have to refuel and clean up after your car every day, whether you drive it or not.

I was on the Grand Princess in Alaska in early July. You can feel vibrations in the ship, especially in the rear with the engines running, or even at the bow when the bow thrusters are running. I didn't try it, but bracing against the rail might not work so well, the vibrations confusing your image stabilization function. I never tried it, having only a 250mm lens on an APS-C body. I saw one lady with a lens as long as my arm using her husband as a tripod (bipod?) while photographing the whales and otters near the glaciers.

I have the Lowepro Slingshot SL 250. I've used it twice, once for a one afternoon car show, and then for an almost two week cruise and land tour of southern Alaska. For the car show it was ok, easy to stow the camera for talking to friends or lunch.

It was a gift from one of my daughters, so I tried to use it as my main backpack on the trip. That said, here are some thoughts on this bag

> It is comfortable to carry all day. For hiking around it stayed under control much better than my other squarish shoulder bag

>While you can reach the camera compartment easily, you have to remove the bag to get at the other compartments.

> Removing the bag is not as convenient as removing a regular back pack. Half the time I ended up with my glasses and hat askew, if not totally removed.

>The bag will hold 1.0 DSLR's plus a few small accessories. Nothing more. For a day long excursion where you might want a water bottle and a sweater or raincoat for changing conditions, there is no extra room. My wife had to carry this stuff for both of us.

>On the planes we flew on, it was too tall to fit under the seat sideways, and stuck out annoyingly far if turned the other way.

So like anything else, this bag seems good for some situations, but not others.

We just got back from a Princess cruise from Vancouver to Whittier, plus Denali. I had my Canon 55 - 250 on the DSLR, plus I used my Canon G9x for wide angle, general purpose stuff. There were several times I wanted something longer, seeing the whales feeding, the otters, the bear on the shore, etc.

We were on the nose of the ship as we toured Glacier Bay and College Fjord (see https://pbase.com/sb_photos/glacier_bay and https://pbase.com/sb_photos/college_fjord), and it was cold, like multiple layers, hat and gloves cold. Granted, they said there were warmer days, but this wasn't one of them.

Oh, even with everyone wearing masks on the ship, and trying to be careful on land, we both came down with Covid just as we got home. (mild cases, no worse than a cold, so the vaccine works). So be careful out there...

There's a ranger booth beside the town common in bar harbor. Right by the place to get the bus into the park. We bought our passes there. No entry booth, but a ranger might ask you to show it.

The seals followed this fishing boat through the harbor to the fish pier, their noses at times right on the transom. When the boat tied up, they hang around waiting for the men to throw them a few snacks. The catch here is Skate, according to my wife, a former fisheries biologist.

Sorry, the phone was all I had with me at the time.

I'm pretty sure I used the VPN that is part of my McAfee virus protection. I also have a free one, "SetupVPN" that was a free download and gets installed as an extension in your browser. I haven't used that one much since I got the McAfee one.

"This was manipulated." Or words to that effect, from Hamilton on the cool down lap. That sums it up. Even sadder was that the ruling bodies couldn't or wouldn't admit that there was an error or... dare I say favoritism... in the decisions made on the last lap.
