Sunday: Race day
I did what I usually do on Memorial Day (long day), I watched races all day, it started with the F1 Monaco Grand Prix, then the Indy 500, then the Nascar Coca Cola 600. Great day for me, but very long and I nodded off a few times, anybody else as
crazy as me? All of them were very exciting to watch and God willing I will do it again next year and on and on.
Surely no one is foolish enough to spend the entire day watching races until nearly midnight!!!
Okay, two of us did that, but surely there aren't others...are there?
We don't count the 500,000+ people in the stands - they are watching only one race.
I would have fallen asleep after the first ten laps of the first race. But that's just me. I realize auto racing has a lot of fans; I'm just not one of them.
I watched them all, including the Moto GP race, but I recorded them so I could fast forward through the boring parts, especially the NASCAR race. One interesting development is that after Sergio Pérez became the first Mexican driver to win Monoco, Mexican drivers came close to winning the other two races. Pato O'Ward came in second in the Indy 500, and Daniel Suárez was a definite contender to win the NASCAR race until someone crashed him. I miss the days when some drivers would try and race both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. Tony Stewart is the only driver to complete both races on the same day.

I watched some of the Indy 500 and all of Monaco, but the current nature of NASCAR racing with he constant crashes and “trading paint” at 200MPH while circulating an oval nose-to-tail is just not my particular kind of racing, but I do admire the quality of the cars/teams (many of the NASCAR teams used to be my customers) and the skills of the drivers.

I have no interest in car racing. I did go to the track one night, well 15 minutes. It was a dirt track. It is now The New Hampshire Motor Speedway. I do the same on January first every year for all the college Bowl games.
Thanks to all for responding, for me racing is the greatest sport in the world.
I used to be stuck to the TV for lots of car racing, but that was in my past life. I also used to read about the races in the car magazines. I knew all the names, cars, and engines.
Same here, mostly. Monaco and Indy were "must see" broadcasts, since in past years I've been to both. NASCAR not so much, I saw maybe 20 laps of the 600, in the middle somewhere. F1 is about the only one where I try to see every race. I've been a long time fan since Rob Walker was writing for Road and Track. I've actually went to 4 F1 races back in the day, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Montreal and Monaco. Recently I've only been going to lower level stuff, Vintage racing at Thompson and Lime Rock, or some regional SCCA stuff. And to complete my "car guy" picture, there's a Sunbeam in my garage...

Hmmm I cut my grass with my new Zero turn Ferris mower. Earlier in the day I drove down an almost deserted Xway at a speed well over the limit in my Audi and had a great experience of speed. What a great day. Oh, there was racing on TV, did John Force place well?

Auto racing is one big reason I bought cameras. I remember visiting one of my cousins in China Grove, NC. He had a wooden frame with hand carved replicas of 33 Offys that he would set up every Memorial Day weekend. He would listen on the radio for the car order and slide the replicas around to show their place in the race. When I lived in England, I was only 15 miles from Silverstone so I saw a lot of racing in those years.

The NHRA wasn't racing last weekend, but John Force did recently win a 4 wide race. Amazing that he's still competitive at 73.

For a couple of years, I record the Le Mans 24-hour. I think that runs in June. Another good one is the Isle of Man TT motorcycle races.
I watched 2 out of the 3 you mentioned. Indy and Coke 600. Both were exciting. The Nascar race had more wrecks than I thought they'd have. But since it's a new car, I guess they are still getting used to the handling.
Watched all of the Indy 500. Interesting for my wife who's a fan of Helio Castroneves. However, with about 25 laps left, he just wasn't making enough headway to make a run.
The Indy cars have lost their allure. Far from being true open-wheel cars, they've evolved into near closed cockpits, and enclosed rear wheels. They're becoming racing coupes. And with wi-fi connections, it's also becoming too robotic. Without red or yellow flags, drivers at the top were averaging 220+/- mph.
I'm in total agreement about NASCAR. It's no longer about the best builders, you can hardly tell the Chevies, Fords, and Toyotas apart. Too many ads on the cars. And "overtime"?
