Until recently I have always opened in the main photography discussion but now I get a list of everything that has changed in any of my selected interest. Is there a way to go back to the old way?

You didn’t say what platform you are on but the rule for computer data safety is 1-2-3 in other words 3 different backups with at least one offsite (or online). For a Mac I use a Time Machine backup locally on a hard drive (don’t need a speedy drive), a clone back of both my root and data drives separately on local Hds, and an online backup using BackBlaze which is about $10/month for UNLIMITED data backup (it doesn’t backup your applications or systems stuff). Since I have an amazon prime account I also use Amazon Photos to back up all my images. I live in an area where a natural disaster like a fire or earthquake could happen so the offsite backup is critical. By the way the person recommending you spend big bucks to buy the high end drives doesn’t realise the mean time between failure of those drives are the same as the so call cheap drives. All drives, hard or SSD, will die. If you go to the Backblaze.com address you can see the report they put out on their drives (numbering in the tens of thousands) every quarter.

I fear the day I can’t shoot images. I’m 74 and have a bad neck and back. Carrying any weight especially on my shoulders hurts like hell so I’ve moved from DSLR to mirrorless etc. I just spent 2 weeks in western Maryland and West Virginia. My wife convinced me to not take my camera gear but just my travel tripod and my iPhone 14 Pro. While it was a struggle I was able walk down the stairs at black waterfalls, swallow falls and Luray Cavern.

I shot in raw whenever possible using a number of different camera apps including the iPhone camera app, Halide, reezhold, even longer and others. I shot handheld long exposures, handheld cave shots, panos, focus stacked, and etc. I felt it took about 90% of what my mirrorless could do with biggest limitation being the telephoto. It also took images I couldn’t have taken with my mirrorless, tripod (not allowed) and a heavy fast lens in the caves. It wasn’t perfect but the alternative wasn’t to shoot at all except out of a car accessible spot. It sucks to get old , laughs.

And 1000/Month for creative cloud users like me. I am disappointed that the fill is at a maximum of 2000x2000 still.

2049 Pix x 1537 pix is the original dimensions and 72 PPi this is the file i received from the client. they want a very large print 48x60. I have tried a varity of things in PS image size> changing the dimensions and or the resolution and or the resample options if i increase the dimensions the resoltion drops to around 42PPi when i increase the resolution and the dimension size the screen preview shows a fairly blurry image at 100%
Any best practice ideas out there in hedgehog landia? _ Kurt

I assume this is a jpeg file? can they send you a version with 300 DPI. Then either topaz Gigapixel or On1 AI Resize are your best bets currently. Also determine at what distance they will be viewing the image. If it is farther away then you could possible print it at a lower dpi like 180.

Good luck

Those new features are in the Beta version of Photoshop so it will be interesting to see if they will charge for them when it is actually released.

Have you ever seen adobe to charge for features? Skylum Neo took a year to put a crop function then they started taking functions already in Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, On1, Affinity Photo etc and charging for them. They are the only one that has that sales model and it stinks. Then take into account they never fix problems just bring out the next newest thing..

I…like many o5er from what I read on my photo forums…have given up on Luminar. Instead of fixing the bugs in their products and only charging for significant major upgrades…they’ve essentially turned it into a subscription by having something “incredible and exciting” every year or less…and it’s something I rarely used anyway.

Me too. This just their latest way to force people to buy the next shiny thing without fixing the problems they have had since luminar 1. The new features are already in Photoshop and don’t cost anymore. Don’t waste your money on skylum. Over promise and under deliver

I had business in Calgary. After it ended I had a magical day. I drove all the way up to Lake Louise then back to Banff where I played 18 holes of golf, I had dinner and watch the sunset driving back to Calgary. There was a huge electrical storm over Calgary. So I watched those fireworks. Perfect ending to a day.

Bags…so many…I have a bad back and neck so any weight on my neck causes me great pain. I have moved to mirrorless to reduce weight, use new RF lens which are lighter and still a problem. I was a backpacker and climber for years and the backpacks that had a good waist belt which took the weight off your shoulders and moved it to your hips was great. But I have yet to see a photographic backpack that is really designed that way (just having a belt doesn’t shift the weight. So I have about 5 bags, hate them all. I am heading down to REI to look at really backpacks to see if I can find a solution. Any thoughts would be helpful. Also I am wondering if anyone has used the Harbor Freight hard case with wheels. It is on sale right now for $70 which is about half the price of the lowest cost wheeled bag.

Usually helped with in a day.

I have had no issues with their support. Yes they don’t have a public phone number but the email address above is answered within a working day.

You can also ask for help in the Facebook group as well as the community.

As far as it running poorly on pc the biggest issue has been graphic cards not being updated. They did and the people that upgraded had less issues.

I teach Photoshop and Lightroom Classic but On1 is my primary application as both my Data Asset Management and editor. I push out to Photoshop (mainly beta) for some features and use plugins to get to Topaz Studio and Topaz Studio 2 as well as affinity. No one app does everything nor everything good.

After having so many Epson inkjet printer dying after about a yr I pretty much won’t touch one. You didn’t say what type of printing you do but I believe the HP was a mfp with a black cartridge and a 3 color cartridge? So not the best for photos? Epson does have a consumer level ‘photo’ printer with tanks rather than cartridges as does Canon. I replaced my HP laser printer with a Canon G7020. It is not photo printer with only a black, Cyan, Yellow, and magenta tanks but I’ve printed over 8k pages without having to refill any of the tanks. That is 1 year of printing. Canon gave me 2 bottles of black ink which are double size of the color bottles. The list price of new bottles is $12 each but I bought some on sale for $7.50 each. I estimate it is costing me less than $.02 per page for consumables. So great, right? Cons? Slower than my laser-jet and at least for macs Canon has cheaped out by using Apple’s AirPrint driver which is almost useless for photo printing. No idea what they do for pc drivers. So I can’t use paper or printer icc profiles. The Canon tank ‘photo’ tank printer does the same. I am hoping Canon puts out a true multi-tank photo printer to replace at least the p200. I am not a pro so I can’t justify buying a cartridge photo printer that costs at least $800, comes with starter ink and whose replacement ink can cost around $1,000!
