Usually, my wife and I each have a backpack for our gear, but we are planning a trip to Scotland, and I want to condense everything into one bag. Below is a list of what we will be taking. Of course, it still needs to fit under the seat, if possible. I would like to stay under $250, but would go higher for the perfect bag.

R7
6D mkII
100-400
RF100-500
16-35

Maybe a second R7 if there is room.

Thanks, Mike

What works perfectly for me, normally carrying that much gear and more, is a carry-on size suitcase with handle and wheels. You can easily transport the gear inconspicuously on planes, in the car seat next to you, between auto and hotel, etc. I added a couple strips of foam to separate lens and bodies. Accessories go in exterior or inner zippered pockets. When working out of the auto with it on the passenger seat, a flip of the lid closed, and no one knows there is any photo gear there.

I am not going to try to tell you what to buy, because there are so many out there and it's a very subjective subject.

I bought and tried and sold many different bags beforeI found one I liked. After I found my match I haven't bought any more bags.

You might want to give ThinkTank a look, (https://www.thinktankphoto.com) see if there is anything there that suits you.

Lowe Pro and Mindshift have been the latest I have looked at (I started with a much longer list of manufacturers). I ended up buying Mindshift.

When I start looking, I only set some starting expected dimensions in the filter section of one of the camera / backpack seller's (B&H, Adorama, etc.) search engines. Then I sorted through the manufacturers for the backpacks that seem to allow my equipment fit properly. Then I went to a local camera store with all the equipment I intend to put into the backpack. This then allowed me to actually see how well all my equipment fit. If nothing "worked" well enough, a new second search based off what I found was done with new filters entered in based off what I found. A second "fitting" of my equipment was done. This ended up with Mindshift being my final choice. I really liked the Manfrotto backpack in my first search, but Manfrotto didn't have a backpack that met my second filter set. I tried some other Manfrottos anyway, but they didn't meet my needs just like my second filter search indicated they would not.

There are many brands out there that I am sure one will fit your needs. Is it Mindshift? Maybe, but there are a lot of good brands out there and each one is slightly different from the other. So far, my choices have been Lowe Pro and Mindshift for backpacks. Maybe they will be your choices too - or maybe they won't.

Back in them oldje days, one recommendation was a Goodwill diaper or playcool item. I had used the (cleaned and polished) diaper bag before digital- NO body touched it when I put it down!

Like most of us, I've gone through many, many backpacks and camera bags. I am down to two: Nomatic's Peter McKinnon 25L and the Shimoda Explore V2 25L. These are smaller bags and may not bit your gear, but you can get a LOT into that Peter McKinnon bag. The Shimoda Explore V2 actually comes in 25L, 30L, and 35L so it can be sized up as needed. The Peter McKinnon also comes in a 35L version but it's too big and heavy for me. I will also say, if you're going to be hauling your bag on a daily basis, the Shimoda HANDS DOWN is "THE" most comfortable backpack I have ever owned.

In that price range, I’ve use the Lowe Pro Protactic 450 which should fit all that gear and maybe your extra body as well.

The Whistler is great and big as well. For the bigger bags, I’m not a fan of Think Tank if you plan on carrying it on your back for long periods of time.

Others to look at would be Mindshift bags, Wandrd bags, and maybe the Peter McKinnon Nomatic large bag. I believe you can get a small cube attachment for the Nomatic that transforms into a smaller backpack when you don’t have to bring everything.

I now carry a Sony RX100 VII, so I got a bag that fits on my belt.

[quote=NP Hound]Usually, my wife and I each have a backpack for our gear, but we are planning a trip to Scotland,

Similar to many other's responses, I have invested way too much $ in back pac ks over the years. The one that I now use and am quite pleased with is a Manfrotto back pack model that has a compartment for my computer. I find that when I travel, even for a few days, I want to download my images each day
I cannot see a model number. The bag is very light in weight and readily holds my Z6 plus up to 4 lenses. If not taking a particular lens, there is room for my flash unit.

Anyone want to purchaser a a 13" Peak Design bag? Great condition. Great protective bag for equipment. Reasonably light in weight.

I travel a lot. I use the carryon suitcase. easy to roll and is always with me. I do add a Packsafe backpack, (fits in the roll on) small, for one camera, batteries, ect. when hiking or other excursions. I never check gear. If I need more gear I rent locally if possible.
