Anyone who has exclusively gone to a cell phone from as DSLR is not likely to go back. Talk to her before deciding.

I've used other brands since back when I first had an EOS XL and have never had a problem.

Your camera has an "automatic" mode which should simplify everything for you and you don't need to spend a penny to replace it. Just put it in that "automatic" mode and shot away.

You don't need a filter during the total phase. 200mm is rather short for this purpose. I used a bridge camera during the 2017 eclipse set at full tele, ~1200 mm (35 equiv) and still cropped the image.

The owner's manual is just under 1,000 pages with a table of contents that didn't help and no index. I was unable to adjust flash exposure while on a shoot. I have since found out how to set the lens control ring and the multi-function button for flash EC control, but can't find it in the normal menu. Is it there?

I use an older 550EX on my R7. It needs no adapter.

Rebels are usually APS-C types. As such, the Canon APS-C mirrorless R series would be a good choice. Using an EF-RF adapter, she can use all of the lenses she had with the Rebel. I have the R7, Canon's best APS-C mirrorless and love it. There are also the R100, R50, and R10. You can compare them here:

If within their budget, the R7 with IBIS would be preferred.

I have the Panasonic Lumix DCZS80 which is a direct competitor. I love it. I much prefer the built-in EVF vs the pop-up of the HX99.

Just be aware that most any advanced editor has a significant learning curve.

Youre really adapting the R bodies to the old EF lenses. Not being rhetorically picky for no reason. It really does feel like the adapted R-type camera is your new "base station" for your existing collection of EF lenses, and you feel no need for new RF-type lenses. IOW it doesnt feel like *adapting* at all. Its just a new camera that does NOT require any new lenses to upgrade the user experience.

This is no conjecture. Its how I use my many EF lenses. Its now much easier and faster to view or focus my same old EF lenses. There are zero "issues" with EF lenses on R-bodies.

This is what I do with my R7 using a Canon EF-RF adapter. I expect all manufacturers have an adapter for their DSLR lenses for use on their mirrorless bodies.

I have a Sigma 18-300mm zoom and while I have no lens to compare with, I get what more than satisfies me, even at the 300mm end. Here is a shot taken at a live concert with a blow up to show detail:

My camera has 2 slots. I have a 128GB in the first slot and an old 8GB card in the second. I don't re-format the 1st card until after I fill it, so it goes for many sessions. I copy all the new shots to my PC after each session. When I fill it I switch to the 2nd card. Then, after copying the new shots, I re-format and start over. I did the same thing when I only had 1 slot, I just kept the 2nd card in my camera bag.

Who uses a PC anymore?

I only use my cell phone when I'm away from home. I even still have a land-line.
