I have a couple of questions related to using flash with a Canon R7.
The first pertains to the AD-E1 Multi-Function Shoe Adapter. Some of Canon's literature seems to imply you'll need the adapter to use legacy flashes with the camera due to electronic issues. Others online say no, if you don't care about weather sealing, you don't need it. Still others say that some weather-sealed flashes can't be physically mounted due to the rubber seal without the adapter. Which is it?
Second, has anyone successfully used a Yongnuo N600EX-RT II flash on an R7?

First some legacy flashes work directly with R7.
Example, 580EX works just fine but the 580EX MII needs the adapter to work properly. Also the EX600 series need the adapter.
I believe that the EX400 series work directly as well.
I got the adapter for my R7 even though I have the 580EX just in case I get a non compatible flash in the future or some future camera won't work with my flash.
Page 69 talks about what units will not work without the adapter.

I have a YN600EX-RT first model. I will try it on my R7 & RP after lunch and let you know.
Well, I just put the flash on and didn't even bother with settings for exposure pointed it at the unlit end of the family room and took a shot. It worked on both the R7 and RP.
I really don't do much flash. When I do it is usually fill flash of birds that are backlit or in shade.

I purchased the Canon EL-5 Speedlight for my Canon R7 and I’m glad I did! Love the battery life-I am an event photographer. Great for hours and hours of shooting.
I use an older 550EX on my R7. It needs no adapter.
