Hello everyone,
I've got a Canon Power Shot sx40hs and it's a bit too complex for me. I'm a senior who has had an extremely stressful Fall because my wife is dying with cancer and chose to relocate 550 miles away at her daughters house. This is after 37 years of marriage. So without resorting to kids toys what camera would you like to suggest ?

I too am a 'senior' and am sorry for your troubles.

My suggestion for a simple camera is the Sony DSC-HX99. Sony puts an "Auto" setting on their dials. Leave it there and your camera will remain simple and your pictures will be good.

Honest thanks for your condolences. I only make $980 a month so that would wipe out my monthly income. :(

does the camera that you have not have an auto mode. Set it and forget it. Just go out and take pictures.

Your camera has an "automatic" mode which should simplify everything for you and you don't need to spend a penny to replace it. Just put it in that "automatic" mode and shot away.

I can't just go out and take pictures because I have these huge growths on the soles of my feet (palmoplantar kerotosis) which are very painful. I guess I could eventually figure out the self timer because I want to take photos of the bottoms of my feet for medical people. Besides, there's nothing to take pictures of on this prairie except ugly wind turbines. The county ruined my property. I say that because I was going to build a small observatory when I first got here in 2000. The thermal turbulence from the turbines totally wipes out the clarity of telescopic images.

Just put it on "Auto", that turns it into a 35x zoom point and shoot. Use flash as needed.

My wife has the sx50hs and that is how she used it before she learned more. Now she uses my Sony RX10iv that way most of the time. She got very good shots of our daughter's Medical School graduation last May. She just added my flash, set on auto for the indoor shots.

She also sometimes uses it the way I do most of the time*: set on manual and pick a shutter speed for the subject, then zoom and let the aperture and ISO go automatic. It is my keep it with me in case camera. When I have a specific type of photography in mind, I use one of my Canon EF or RF cameras with the appropriate lens(es) and accessories.

Doesn't sound like what I'm trying to to do. I may have to use my really old point and shoot camera even if the pix are a little soft :(

You can always purchase a bridge camera that has a built in lens from a good camera store or from a large camera store on the internet.

Right! Any camera with "Auto" is point-and-shoot and "simple."

And people who asked for simpler camera generally already have them. So "Auto" isn't simple.
