Let it all hang out! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one man's meat etc. If you don't like someone else's product so be it.

My major interest in photography is scenics. I love the beauty of the world that is around us. So, I love to look at other people's work as well.

Too many of the pictures I see posted, here and more so on other sites, to my eye have been obviously extensively and excessively worked over in post processing. Colors are too vivid and often unbelievable, edge sharpness is far too exaggerated, contrast has obviously been "adjusted". Often pictures are simply too "cute".

To my eye such pictures are ugly. I guess I'd have to say that if you can tell a picture has been "enhanced" in post-processing then it was probably overdone.

I have nothing against the concept of post-processing and I do it myself, though I am far from a master of it. It can offer wonderful opportunities to improve a photograph, change it to monochrome, remove dust and blemishes, correct color balance, merge photos etc. etc.

But it is and should remain a means to an end, not the end itself.

Is this just me or do others share my view?

Why not consider the FZ 2500/2000, more on a par with the Sony but miles cheaper? I've just acquired one, grey market very impressive for an all-in-one solution.

I'd be interested in hearing from members who have personal experience with the Panasonic. The cost differential is significant. I'll be taking a Blue Danube river cruise (Prague to Budapest) in August. I may opt to leave my DSLR's & lenses home and use one of the two mentioned bridge cameras. My main concern is quality of images and sufficient wide angle to capture scenes, buildings, ... I've read many of the reviews, especially on DPReview. I'll shoot RAW and process when back home. I have storage for the images.

Thanks for your response.

Washer and dryer! I'll test it out tomorrow and let you know the results. Meanwhile any guesses,
is it trash and if not, would you trust it? The good news is there were not any pics on it.

I have been looking for a replacement for my Sony a6000 camera that I dropped. I have read BH photo and DP reviews and I like the Panasonic fz1000. Can someone give me a likes/dislikes review if they own the camera. thanks in advance. Bob

I don't know much about the FZ1000 but I have just acquired an FZ2500 (2000 in UK). I know it's more expensive but it's very good for a bridge camera.

Not sure the Fuji is in the same league, built to a much lower budget and having a 1 2/3 sensor. The only advantage it appears to have over the others is the weather/dust sealing so if that's what you want fair enough.

If you can afford them the Panasonic FZ2000 (fairly expensive) or the Sony RX10 IV (really expensive), both with 1 in sensors, are the way to go in terms of bridge cameras, getting well into DSLR/Mirrorless territory and producing comparable results.

Lucas Industries plc was a Birmingham-based British manufacturer of motor industry and aerospace industry components. Once prominent, it was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was formerly a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. In August 1996, Lucas merged with the American Varity Corporation to form LucasVarity plc.

After LucasVarity was sold to TRW the Lucas brand name was licensed for its brand equity to Elta Lighting for aftermarket auto parts in the United Kingdom. The Lucas trademark is currently owned by ZF Friedrichshafen, which retained the Elta arrangement.

Lucas is long-gone!

Between us my wife and I have an Olympus Stylus 1s (f2.8 all the way with results to match), a Panasonic FZ80 and a Canon SX60 HS. They all produce very good results, though the latter two aren't wonderful in low light, they are all reasonably light to hang round your neck all day. I also have an Olympus OMD EM1 Mk 1 with a 12-40 PRO lens; a great combination but quite weighty.

(1) & (2) Taken at British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire.
(3) & (4) Taken at Harp Place, Coventry Adult Education Service (originally the offices of the Great Horseless Carriage Company, later the Daimler Car Company. The factory was called Motor Mills, understood to be the first car factory in the world, previously a cotton mill. Motor Mills was destroyed by German bombs in the 1940 blitz on Coventry; the offices escaped damage.
(5) Night photography, Coventry City Centre, right by the Coventry Motor Museum; taken on the night of the recent 'Super Moon'. The statue is of Sir Frank Whittle, inventor of the jet engine. The building on the left was originally the Central Fire Station, the building on the right is Pool Meadow Bus Station.
(6), (7) & (8) Night photography, Coventry City Centre, as above. The last two images are located near to the old and new cathedrals.

I acknowledge that US prices seem cheaper but UK prices include VAT (Value Added Tax) at 20%. I understand US prices quoted do not usually include local/state sales taxes so the price differential may not be quite as big as it appears.

A walk round lens is what suits the user in terms of having the ability to cover most situations they may come across. For me the best I have in this sense is a 14-140 in micro-four thirds but that's an individual choice, with pros and cons, and wouldn't suit everyone. Funnily enough, some of us occasionally venture out into a city centre, for instance, with no particular aim other than to photograph what we might come across, be it street photography, buildings, landscapes etc and we don't want the bother of carrying other lenses or of changing over in mid-stream.
