Great photograph Vafishing!
PD does make things a little more interesting. I have it also but am still able to get around with a cane. I use a monopod in place of a cane when photographing. Sometimes it gets real interesting trying to get up off the ground when photographing wildflowers. I seem to be good for about an hour to an hour and one half. I recently went to a smaller and lighter mirrorless setup (Sony NEX 7) which is working out well. I can shoot this one handed if I have too. The nikon D7100 just got a little much to handhold.

They take some getting used to but make unique images. All manual operation. You control diffusion/sharpness by aperture setting. You control location of sharpness by the tilt of the lens. I think they are the only way, other than a view camera with swings and tilts, to get that unique look.

I have several Sigmas including 2 "Art" series. I am starting to have some autofocus problems with both a 17-50 f2.8 and a 50-250 variable focal length non "Art" Sigmas. This starts to show up after several years use and about 30,000 to 50,000 exposures. The lens in question start to get "sticky" in their autofocus capabilities. One has died completely in its autofocus mode (the 17-50 f2.8). I'm not exactly sure what is going on. The main camera (Nikon D7000) is scheduled for a checkup in June. The 17-50 f2.8 AF doesn't work on a D7100 body either so I pretty sure this lens is the problem. Sigma's IQ has always been great for the $ but I am starting to question the mechanical AF performance. Anyone else running into this issue????

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I had the freeze-up problem on LR6 ever since I downloaded it! Running Windows 7 on a Lenovo notebook. The problem occurred when switching from Develop back to Library in LR6 - got the "not responding" kiss of death and then had to dump LR and start over. This has drove me nuts for ~ 6 months to the point I didn't use LR6 but went back to LR5. Disabled the graphics processor in Preferences, rebooted, and problem solved!!!

I do a newsletter for our church and a lot of photography. My go-to outfit is a Nikon D7000 with a Sigma f2.8 17-50mm zoom with the iso at 2500. Also use the Sigma f2.8 50-150 when I need more telephoto. This is an APC sensor camera that I normally hand hold or use a monopod and use autofocus. I have a photo in the current "Holy" contest that was shot by candle light using this rig.

My experience selecting a camera for wifey is a losing battle! There is always something wrong with what I think may work for her. Best approach is for her to identify what is lacking with her current camera setup and then take her to a camera store for her to pick something out. This gets you off the hook because it is her decision and therefore much more likely to succeed.

Try Antelope House Tours (AdamTeller). They treat you to a Navajo lunch at their home by the Antelope House Ruin. Excellent! Not only the scenery and photo ops but they give you a running history of the place. I did it last year.

Sirui 400 series carbon fiber with 3 fold down legs. Kind of a cross between a monopod and a tripod. Holds about 40 lbs. Doubles as a hell for stout walking stick. Got mine from B&H along with a Sirui ball head. Quality stuff!

I use mine all the time. It's a Sirui carbon fiber one with 3 fold down legs on the bottom and a ball head on top - kind of a cross between a tripod and a regular monopod. Step on one of the legs for extra stability. It lets me do my photography again as without it I'm hopeless, having a mobility impairment.

I have had good luck with Sirui ball heads - very good value for the buck, very strong and smooth to operate. I would probably go with the 20 model(not many more bucks) to allow for more GAS in the future!

It kind of looks like an otter. It's skinnier than a beaver.
