Cormorant under attack

You just won't believe this series. All at at 300 mm, so with the naked eye I couldn't see what was really happening, just that Cormorant out there jumping around.
Interesting, so I take a few shots, WOW
I'm assuming that's a beaver because that's an active lodge with 2 beaver working it, but I've never known a beaver to try to take down a bird like that. Now just maybe that's an Otter looking for a meal but they mostly eat fish and other stuff they find in the water. I can't tell for sure, Otters get pretty big also. Doesn't seem to me that the beaver's would let an Otter get that close to their den.
What's your opinion ?

This shot was to show relative distance at 300 mm

The next 3 shots are the same series only cropped to max

He's really clamped on and not letting go.

I wish I'd have known what was happening, I would have done a better follow up.

It kind of looks like an otter. It's skinnier than a beaver.

Frank W, interesting picture. It appears to me that the bird is indeed under attack and that the Beaver is trying to possibly kill the bird. How did it end? Tejaswrangler :)

I thought the same thing, but just to far away to know for sure.
Thanks for looking.

Don't know, not being aware of what was really happening I wasn't paying that much attention, I was scanning the sky for Eagles & Osprey, when I glanced back a few moments later, all was quiet & peaceful, nothing there.
Thanks for looking.

I believe it's just a log. If you crop very closely and compare side by side by side, you'll see that the "attacker" has not changed position at all.

Maybe the cormorant was just slipping, or even had a foot caught.

And just seeing what we want to see ???
After seeing the size of some of the fish those Cormorants swallow, I thought maybe he just reached down and ate that bugger.... :-D
After much closer scrutiny I think you may be absolutely correct, I'll go back over and see if I can confirm.
No wonder you take better pictures then most of us, you see things most of us don't.

The bird is simply drying his wings

I'll have to agree, from the distance I was, it appeared the bird was struggling, but apparently just keeping it's balance on an uneven surface.
Thanks for looking.

you may be absolutely correct, I'll go back over and see if I can confirm.

Drove back to the lake yesterday afternoon, took another shot of the beaver lodge, completely different conditions, the water level was about a foot higher, covering most of what I wanted to see, and I had to move about 150 yards south of the original shot to see past the weeds in the foreground that's about 2 foot higher then before, but, from what I can see the logs & larger sticks appear to be in a correct position to create the illusion in the original picture.

I think you're right Linda, good eye.
