Hope your gear includes a sleeping bag, emergency rations and a shovel. Would hate to get stranded in all that white stuff.

A few of you wrote you were using my Giant Roller picture as a Valentine's Day Card. My favor is, could you post the finished card?
I don't want to read the romantic message inside, I'm interested in the framing and bordering of the picture on the outside and what programs or process you used.

Thank you--and again, I'm flattered my picture was chosen for such an occassion.

Have you been able to determine what the roller was for? Perhaps it may have been from an era before snow plows and was used to roll the snow on dirt roads, among other things.

I shoot cannons and they will sync up to 1/250 no matter what speedlight is used[/quote]

Cannons make loud noises; Canons make acceptable pictures, Nikons better pictures.

My narrowed down choices are; Nikon d3100 and Canon g12.

Any sugestions would be vert helpful.

If you are new to digital photography and want to benefit from extra capabilities as you progress, consider the Nikon D5100. It is Nikon's upper entry-level camera. Yes, it costs a bit more, but the investment may be well worth it in the future. Cannot comment on Canons.

Hello fellow hedgehoggers! I posted a picture of some ornamental peppers on a recent thread and stated they were part of a hedge. A hedgehog friend said they had never seen them growing in a hedge so I tried to find a picture online of a full hedge. I googled " ornamental pepper hedge" and selected "images". Much to my surprise, up popped my picture. I know it's mine cause it's watermarked. There were many others as well. It had a link to UHH if you clicked on it. I don't know if I feel flattered or violated. I post for you guys, not neccessarily the whole world. I searched and found others the same way. I'm not real Internet savvy so maybe this is commonplace. See if you can find some of yours!

FYI, this post is on Google verbatim. If you google your "user name/ UHH" you can find every post you have made. Keep it friendly and clean.

Am right handed, left eye dominant. For camera shooting, I use my left eye. I find the camera blocks vision with the right eye so I'm not bothered by wondering which image I'm seeing. Only problem is smudging of the LCD screen. For firearms and archery, my shooting glasses have a Scotch Magic Tape patch over the spot where the left image would be. Cheap fix - eliminates squinting.

I read this online on the N-Photo site.

"The D700 and D300s Nikon DSLRs have been discontinued in Japan because they do not comply with safety laws, Nikon says."

Have read the notices - nothing said. Bet it has something to do with the battery and/or the charger. Anyway, it seems insignificant to us, but must be serious for the Japanese safety gurus.

Have several of the 323rc2-type mount assemblies. Can be attached directly to tripods/monopods or to a variety of 1/4 or 3/8 ball heads. The plate for the camera is the 200PL-14. The 14 = 1/4". Have a plate permanently on my cameras. Check eBay for availability -Manfrotto ball heads or plates.

Since you're already in MI, the UP could be a long weekend trip. Concentrate on a more distant spot for the big vacation. Try the mountains of western NC - Asheville sw to the TN line. Brevard to Highlands to Franklin is scenic. Great Smoky Mtn NP will be crowded. If you go, try to include the Blue Ridge Parkway. That would give you a good feel for the Appalachians. Perhaps use US 27 or 127 for one leg of your trip. Stay off the Interstates if you can afford the time. Lots more to see. Enjoy.

Google buyherephoto and read the caveats, especially thoughts-of-Dave. "Buyerbeware" should be their slogan.

Just for the info.

It's actually "motocross."

Can someone tell me exactly what this is? It sounds like there is a base plate that attaches permanently to a tripod. A quick release plate attaches to the camera and lets it snap onto the tripod. If so, this would let me use one QR plate for several tripods.

The obvious answer is that it is an adapter that you can add to your tripod to allow quick changes of camera bodies on a tripod. But, typically you wouldn't put it directly on a tripod by itself. A likely scenario would be if you have a ball-head (without a permanently installed baseplate), you can substitute the RC4 for the ballhead baseplate. That will let you use Manfrotto's quick release plates on the ballhead.

I have several tripods and a monopod, each with a Manfrotto head with RC2 configuration. I leave the plate attached to the camera and am able to choose the tri/monopod without having to assemble a head to it each time. Also allows for quick detachment if the picture situation doesn't require the 'pod.
