Regarding lenses, I see all the usual suspects mentioned all the time, camera specific, as well as Sigma, tameron etc, but I rarely see "Vivitar" talked about, and very few ad's for them either. Their cost seems very reasonable compared with the other makes available, so I was wondering if any of you own/use, or have any experience with them, or if they are any good? Thanks in advance,
Ray.

This one was taken last night, after a major storm moved through. Leica Q2 again, Auto WB, and an accurate rendition of the colours I saw.

Beautiful shot, and the colors are perfect!

As a Brit happily living in California, (16 years now), I just wanted to say happy independence day! I for one am glad it turned out the way it did, and produced the nation that it has become. Congratulations and happy birthday! All the best for now and for the future,
Ray.

It is true to say that CAMERAS never take photos, but YOU do. However; YOU must have a camera to do your job.

We used to have over dozens of camera brands in last century (over 30 years ago), but today my choice is 4 or 5?
I would like to know how today's photographers favor which brand is the best. We must consider all those factors; what is capability of the equipment and system, pricing, reliability, service availability, and user friendly design.

I came up with four major names; SONY, FUJI. CANON, and NIKON. There were OLYMPUS, PENTAX, LEICA and PANASONIC a decade ago, what happened with them, are they still with us?

I don't know what drives others in the decision making process, but for me it really comes down to, price, (value for money), capabilities, (features /functions), available accessories, (lenses etc), future proofing, (software/firmware updates), and customer service. Ease of use is a big concideration for me, so I tend to stay with what I've become comfortable with, (Canon in my case), because most of the buttons and controls are easy for me to find across the range, but I'm sure that applies to all makers. So that's just my 2 cents worth, and I guess that is just my opinion on "the big 4 or so!
All the best, and have a great 4th!

From our trip to France in May, the Basilique Sainte-Trinité or Holy Trinity Church in Cherbourg, France. Not a spectacular Gothic design like many in Europe by any means but still a beautiful cathedral, especially the interior.

The first church in Cherbourg was built around 435 AD and was destroyed in the Norman raids in 841. William the Conqueror ordered a new one built in the 11th century on the original church site. That church suffered badly in the Hundred Years" War and the current Gothic church was built again on its ruins between 1450-1466. The Holy Trinity Church was secularized however it was looted during the French Revolution in 1794, but rebuilt in the 19th century. The Neo-Gothic tower was erected in 1828, the wooden pulpit dates from 1767 and altarpiece from 1814.

Really dark inside, however I though the light reflecting through the stained-glass windows onto the pillars in the fourth photo was a rather nice touch. Much better in download, all were taken handheld, Sony RX-10....Cheers

Lovely set, and I agree with your stained glass observations.

Beautiful set of images, and kudos to you for being so considerate of the families that were there, (if only there were a few more like yourself).

Beautiful detailed shots Timothy! That's a Douglas squirrel, the only one of the squirrels I really like.
Main food is conifer seeds. They snip off the cones and let them fall before the seeds are ripe and then extract and stash them. At my cabin I hear the cones hit the metal roof, sometimes starting at dawn, and find piles of the
discarded cone parts around the place.

Johnny

Quick question. How do you know the squirrels name is Douglas? (he looks more like a Jeffery to me)! Lol.

I wonder if Chevy ever thought one of their cars could look like this when it rolled off the production line, and what their opinion would have been?

Still slaving away at the up-armor job-blew my right shoulder out-completely useless now. May have to go see a quack!

I cannot lift a camera-even the cell phone-with my right arm :-( no photography

The squirrel stayed about 25 feet from me munching away for about 10 minutes. All of a sudden it ran right at me, up into my pant leg, then out and over my lap and off! I could not get a shot because my right shoulder will not allow it and the critter was too close for my 500pF!

The Salmon Berries are just about done around here.

Went to walk the dog at Belfair State Park. Cannot use the arm so my wife went to a tide pool and snapped a few using my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Yes the crab is under water.

Download and enjoy!
