From our trip to France in May, the Basilique Sainte-Trinité or Holy Trinity Church in Cherbourg, France. Not a spectacular Gothic design like many in Europe by any means but still a beautiful cathedral, especially the interior.
The first church in Cherbourg was built around 435 AD and was destroyed in the Norman raids in 841. William the Conqueror ordered a new one built in the 11th century on the original church site. That church suffered badly in the Hundred Years" War and the current Gothic church was built again on its ruins between 1450-1466. The Holy Trinity Church was secularized however it was looted during the French Revolution in 1794, but rebuilt in the 19th century. The Neo-Gothic tower was erected in 1828, the wooden pulpit dates from 1767 and altarpiece from 1814.
Really dark inside, however I though the light reflecting through the stained-glass windows onto the pillars in the fourth photo was a rather nice touch. Much better in download, all were taken handheld, Sony RX-10....Cheers
