The story goes, Picasso went up in his first plane ride in the late 1940s, looked out the window and saw the patterns of the land and fields below and said, Braque and me got cubism right.

So, better late than never, here's one of our "Abandoned (or sometimes maybe not?) Chairs". Feel free to critique - I've been playing around with a number of effects in LR and wouldn't mind constructive feedback.

I'm posting some additional examples in the gallery.

I prefer color myself, but I think the black and white works here. It appears to be a formerly abandoned chair that has not found a perm. home as of yet. i would have liked to see more of the surroundings and maybe have the chair at eye level as if you were sitting in one next to it.

That's my take on it. I think it is easier to critique someone else's work because one doesn't have an attachment to it. Sort of like the chair, it's there because one doesn't have an attachment to it.

Thanks for sharing with me. I'm glad to see I stirred some creativity..

I don't shoot people because of the same reasons you find them hard to shoot. I think you are doing fine and with practice you will get the hang of it. Cheers

#1 A heart someone left in San Francisco ( more of these coming soon )
#2 macabre ( more creepy things coming soon)
#3 I don't know this guy but I wanted to take a photo of someone taking a photo with their phone and have the phone's image be a mini of my photo. This is as close as I could get
#4 G I guess I was bored. More signs coming soon
#5 Pelican Beach on Alcatraz (Ironic because Alcatraz means pelican)
#6 fog on Sutro Tower
#7 A modern commentary - everyone is a photographer today, I didn't say good.
#s 8 9 and10 then and now photos. I borrowed the then photos from the library and/or a San Francisco history site, the modern photos are mine. I'd like to do more like these.

Comments?

My wife is publishing a twenty page pamphlet about our town, i am supposed to provide photos of churches, old homes, stores. any suggestions about shooting these. Canon 80D, canon f5.6 18-55 lens, canon 55-250 f4 lens

I am not a professional so my advice is strictly my opinion. I would try to isolate the subject and make it the center of the photo. Try to avoid any distractions such as wires, cars and people unless they are part of the composition. Also avoid mid-day shooting because it will wash out your colors. It's best to take photos in the early morning just after sunrise for about an hour. The evening sun is also good but not as good as morning sun. Make your subject look interesting and as beautiful as possible. Experiment. If the photos one day are not so good, try it again the next day. Look at what you didn't like in the bad set and improve upon it in the second shoot. Keep repeating until you get it right. Don't get discouraged. Follow your gut.
that's my advice based on my experience. I hope you find some of it helpful. But like all advice, take what works and leave the rest.
Cheers
