I have used Crash Plan for several years. I also use an app called Arq which backs up to AWS(Amazon Web Services). Both run in background continuously.

For price the a6000 is hard to beat. I own one. But when the a6500 came out I immediately ordered one for the in body stabilization. I use several old Minolta lenses with no IS along with my Canon lenses.

Buy a copy of SpinRite at grc.com, if not pleased, money back guarantee. I have used it for 15 years to maintain and recover hard drives. It also works on solid state drives.

If you have a windows or linux machine that you can run the recovery software on, get SpinRite at GRC.com for $89 with 30 day guarantee. I have used it for years for drive maintenance and recovery. If the drive is spinning, SpinRite can probably see it. Use option 2, it may run for hours.

I also like that it is very portable. I would use 3 drives also and keep one off-site. CRU-DataPort also has a desktop unit that uses 3 1/2" drives which are less expensive than the 2 1/2" drives for the little unit.

I've read that these units work best when directly connected to the computer. I considered units that work well wirelessly.

What type/brand drives do you use in your ToughTech Duo?

I use Samsung solid state drive since I carry the unit with me at times along with a 15in MacBook Pro. Just got the newer unit which does not require an external power supply but have not had time to use it.

I like and use the CRU-DataPort ToughTech Duo but only for pictures. The great thing about it is the drives are mirrored and hot swap able so I use 3 drives. Drive 1 always stays in the unit. Drive 2 & 3 are rotated in and out with one of these stored offsite in my shop (separate building).
I backup my entire computer to a Drobo unit which is a raid device and to a cloud service.

Also drives that SpinRite could not 'see' I have placed in freezer for 2 hours and they started spinning again.

Rice bran will attract deer, coyotes, and bear. Don't know about mountain lions. Just dump it on the ground, you don't need a feeder. Besides bear will destroy feeders. I bear country I carry a 44 magnum pistol.
