Thumbs plus
One of the best all around photo programs. Great for putting order to all things. Plus it has most photo editing features. A great resize tool. Plus most “things” can be batch processed.

I also use live view and then zoom in to focus. However, I have a D7000 and a D800E. Usually the image is so bright that it causes the sensor to bloom which washes out any detail used to focus on so the solution is to hit the DOFP button closing down the aperature. On the D7000 this doesn’t work but on the D800E it does. I checked with Nikon and sure enough no DOFP in live view for the D7000 but it does work on the D800E. A silly firmware omission on Nikon’s part but it hasn’t been fixed yet.

There is a small problem in photographing the moon. I also use Live View to focus the camera but the moon is so bright that it causes the camera sensor to bloom and makes seeing details to focus on difficult.
So what one needs to do is hit the DOFP button to darken the image. Here is the problem.
I have A D7000 and a D800E. DOFP does not work with the 7000 series cameras but does work with the D800E. I checked with Nikon and this mistake in the 7000 series was confirmed. Easily fixed within firmware update but it hasn’t happened yet.

Send the damaged device to the battery company. If the date on the battery is within its expiration time they will repair or replace your equipment.
I sent a set of Bose headphones, $300, because a single bad copper top AAA battery leaked. They said the battery date was past but they still sent me a check for $200 and I bought a new set from Craig's list for $200.
As for electronic flashes I have switched to using the Lithium primary cells. Haven't had one of those go yet. The Eneloops may also be a good choice.

Used Costco for calendar. 8.5 x 11 stock with pictures close to 8 x 10 size. Cost about $10 each. Spiral bound. Order took about 10 days. Came individually wrapped in clear plastic. Very nice quality product.
Toughest part of the job is picking those 12 pictures. You need to select one picture for outside cover.

Many newer programs require a later version of .NET. Check which version you now have against the latest version number. Try upgrading .NET. It most likely can't hurt to do so.

Surprisingly both the D7000 and the D800 have popup flashes. I'm not always trying to get an Ansel Adams quality shot. I have a popup granddaughter where that little flash saves the day.....or night.
I know without it we up the reliability and lower the weight, but at times it can save your shot. When not being used it's not in the way. I guess it's just not cool if your a pro.

Does depth of field preview work while in the live view mode?
My D800E does yet my D7000 does not. This is important when shooting a subject like the moon.
This should be fixable in a firmware update, but for some reason Nikon hasn't fixed it yet.
The D500 looks like a great camera in spite of the fact there is no pop up flash.

I'm interested if you have the case and small stand that comes with it.
Are the battery contacts clean, no corroded batteries.
Let me know if you still have it.

A couple of weeks ago I was awakened by the shrill cry of some bird of prey. Two Cooper Hawks ( I believe ) have moved into our neighborhood. We are a few hundred yards from the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, which is a protected wild life sanctuary. Home to coyotes, foxes, fish and many breeds of birds. We have squirrels living in many trees.
The Hawks have not shown much fear of humans. In fact I was able to get fairly close one late afternoon. Note the reddish lighting.

Sadly the depth of field preview does not function in Live View. Nikon acknowledged this when I asked. Also does not work with newer D7??? Models. Makes focusing on a bright moon nearly impossible. However, my full frame does, D800e.
This could probably be fixed with a firmware update.

My D7000 will often stop working and freezes up. Nothing but removing the battery for a short time will get it up and running. When it is in this hung up mode the only thing different that is visible is that there is a small icon on the top LCD. It sort of looks like a battery symbol but simpler than the normal one. It is in the upper left corner of the display.
Normally the top display shows the amount of pictures that can be stored, even if the battery is removed.
It has been sent to Nikon for repair but they claim they cannot duplicate the problem. The first time it was sent in they replaced some electronic board and the internal flash was inoperative. So it had to go back for that. The second time they just returned it.
Has anybody experienced a similar issue? My 5 year service plan runs out next January. It does get sent to Nikon for repair.

I too am very interested in the Surface Book from Microsoft. However, I cannot find any information about whether or not the battery is user replaceable, such as on an airplane or out in the field. Anyone know?

Big problem is focusing while using Live View on Nikon D7XXX is that it must be done at full aperture. This series of cameras do not close down the f stop when the depth of field preview button is pressed while in Live View.
However the D8XX full frame cameras do close down the aperture when the DOP button is pushed while in Live View, making critical focus possible.
I have queried Nikon about this and they confirmed this problem. They could fix it with a firmware update but haven't so far. Don't understand why, it wouldn't cause any negative issues.
I know that the Canon T2 series also will not close the iris when using DOP while in Live View.

Bought the Logitech Fotoman at an auction for $150. It was real junk.

"Dubbed “the Brownie of the personal computing set” by the New York Times, the first digital camera to reach the U.S. consumer market proved too expensive ($600) and too rudimentary (376x240 pixels, B&W) to really sell well, but it found some buyers among real-estate agents and insurance adjusters."

It would only take a few lo res pictures then the batteries needed to be replaced.
