Question for D500 owner.

Does depth of field preview work while in the live view mode?
My D800E does yet my D7000 does not. This is important when shooting a subject like the moon.
This should be fixable in a firmware update, but for some reason Nikon hasn't fixed it yet.
The D500 looks like a great camera in spite of the fact there is no pop up flash.

Uh... No popup is a feature no a 'despite'.

And yes the iris shuts/adjust as needed in live view (just verified it). Turn your camera on, select live view then adjust the aperture. You will hear the iris adjust.

The D500 is not for beginners. I would never use a POP UP FLASH on any thing unless in an extreme emergency. I use mounted flash for all of my work. I shoot wildlife and it is one of the greatest cameras's made for this use. I have put away my D4s because the frame rate is almost the same and the extra reach of the D500 is very welcome.

Normally, I would not use a pop up flash either, but I have found one great use for them! To provide the signal (light) to fire other, remote flashes. Ha, I own a D500, for all of 1 week, and I had to go check to see if it had a flash. Funny, mine doesn't have one either!

Surprisingly both the D7000 and the D800 have popup flashes. I'm not always trying to get an Ansel Adams quality shot. I have a popup granddaughter where that little flash saves the day.....or night.
I know without it we up the reliability and lower the weight, but at times it can save your shot. When not being used it's not in the way. I guess it's just not cool if your a pro.

I'm a pro, and it's perfectly 'cool' with me. Not only that, but it can be very useful. Back in the day of film and interchangeable finders, it would have a bit cumbersome to design one into those bodies which is where the notion of it not being 'professional' comes from as far as I can tell. If used improperly, it can make a mess of your photo. As you say with your popup granddaughter. For me, it's my over active grandson and all his friends. I have absolutely no issue using it upon occasion with my D810, even if it messes up the shot because I can always crop. Of course, I'd prefer something like the SB910 or SB5000 but I would normally not keep one of those on a camera unless my assignment will call for it. Use whatever works for you and worry not about anyone else's approval. Best of luck!

I use my SB400 to trigger my other flash units, SB700 in particular. The bounce capability makes on-camera use a snap! Pun intended.
