I can't believe I messed up and did not check the batteries in a couple flashes I have here for my Nikons. Sooooooo..... what is the best way to clean the connectors, please? Two of them are ok, the third leaked battery juice a little. I appreciate your advice; have seen this discussed and could not find it.

You're the third person I have read a post on this problem. It happened to me with a flashlight. You can dampen a cloth or Q-tip with white clear vinegar, and wipe clean the corrosion. On my flashlight, I mildly soaked a small rag with baking soda and water, and ran it through the flashlight battery tunnel. It worked. Others may have better methods. Good luck.

Less cleaning solution is more.

Q-tips and vinegar and let it fizz away can take a while. I just used a film container to hold my vinegar and a series of q-tips. worked pretty well.

A red colored pencil eraser works well in removing the oxidation from the metal.

A pencil eraser contains pumice, an abrasive.

Vinegar+q-tip. Once it is cleaned, a little denatured alcohol to wipe up the residue.

Baking soda neutralizes the battery acid. You do not say what kind of batteries you use. If you buy the cheapest like so many do, you get what you deserve. I sold batteries for several years, pushed Varta batteries, the oldest battery in the world, started in the late 1800's. Never had anyone complain about one leaking.

Ordinarily you would be correct. In this case, however, if they were alkaline batteries, wouldn't it be better to use a mild acid to neutralize the alkali? Thank you.

Vinegar, then a light, very light coating of WD 40.

After the vinegar use a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip or long swab to dry the contacts.
