I live in Florida....the dash can hit 160 in minutes, cabin temps can reach that level within an hour. Even my old white Jeep Cherokee (was my go-to-work, now its officially a "hay wagon") with the window shades gets hot as hades after an afternoon in the sun (dark tint and windows open 1"). If I keep a camera in any of my vehicle, I like to use an old Styrofoam cooler...holds the heat back for some time...and looks like a crappy old cooler...never mind that it might be full of gear. Most of the time my gear is inside in AC.....just to much humidity here.

Hi, Don't have your camera but I would (if it were mine) do all the "resets" that are available for that model. Full factory reset....then (if that doesn't help) Take out battery and card, turn on and off, then re-install both, and see what happens. Manual or Nikon site may have other methods. Hope you can solve at home.

Excellent!!!! About two weeks after that Deep Purple album came out, my wife and I were doing an extended camping holiday on the east end of Long Island (Cedar Point area) and some yahoos that were camping nearby played the 8-track tape loudly 24/7 for two days until the campground management lost their fear of shutting down the drunken yahoos and stepped in......I liked Deep Purple, but we've never listened to Smoke on the Water again.........

I have 4 Sony cams, A58, A37 and two A300 (both bought very cheaply with issues-bad LCD) and I have never broken one, nor had a problem. The last camera of mine to fail was my old Argus C3...one of the kids played with it. and my old Minolta 7000 is starting to look bad, though it still works. Good to know where to send one if there is a failure.

I have the Bell&Howell version (pawnshop $45) and it makes a pretty decent telescope. I did make a support mount that eliminates the tendency to droop when fully extended. You all may find this a bit funny...when out birding or whatever, especially shooting remote... I often stick it on an old tripod with an old film body/or old digital on it...just so folks that walk up can look through it....great conversation piece...and if someone zips up and snatches it..jokes on them...can you imagine being arrested for stealing that thing!!!!!!. Yes, you can take decent pics with it but you have to hunt for it's sweet spot (probably a little different from copy to copy). And many would call it a toy.... mikey

I successfully shot weddings and hi-caliber legal photography in the 70s/80s with much lesser equipment than described...and I believe that technique and a good eye can trump many equipment shortcomings.

RGreenway may have a good answer for your situation....and another hog, I believe the Imagemeister (hope I got that right) has shown a type of harness mount (his own design) that may take a lot of the weight out of your hands and redistribute to upper body. There are other harness setups that will also do this, but perhaps another hog has more experience in that arena. I suffer from rotator cup issues that make steady handhold of larger lens difficult in certain situations, especially for following a subject....and for that I almost always go to tripod or monopod....and also use remote shooting gear. Remote requires some scouting and placement (planning) ahead of time, but can completely eliminate the need for a big lens. There are also many levels of remote application - anything from very simple to quite fancy. I went through some trial and error with bridge cameras too...have several with great zoom capability...and they take good quality pics - if you eliminate the "shake and vibration". Shake and vibration are your greatest enemies - try your best to eliminate those....just pushing the shutter button can induce movement, mirror movement, wind, etc... gotta tone them down for a big lens like the new one you have (I want one of those too!!!!!!). Don't despair and don't give up - set back and look carefully at your situation - look at the helpful equipment that is available (think cinema/camcorders/tv cameras - some are big and heavy - require harness for pro work, unless you want it to look like the "Cloverfield" movie. Start researching and see what help you can get. Cheers mikey

Its all really a fun gig - you do your homework, select the right stuff. ...negotiate....or seek a recovery (refund or renegotiate) and good can happen. I did Sony Minolta because I had some good inventory already...but even someone starting out can really score..just do some homework...learn what you need to make a good photo..(heck, I started with a ARGUS C-3 my Dad gave me..man did I just date myself). I can afford to buy a new 850/D5 etc. Nikon...but until my photography talents can make good use of that fine tool..I'll keep playing with my honestly but cheaply acquired gear. And I'm having fun with said gear. How many of you can sport a full radio controlled remote standoff rig. TV pic of screen view, and control focus and shutter/flash actuations from distance, and produce a great image? I did the (film days) Wedding Photog, Legal photog for a large legal firm, and a lot more (for $$, and experience)....but I never lost that need for my hobby to "give me fun", and I flat out love to tinker. For me, its "win - win". Go ahead, have fun!!!!!!

Very nice, well done. We get one or two visits during the better migrations (east coast Florida)....many family groups of Painted Buntings, but just a peek at the Indigo's.

Well, if it looks that bad I'll just sell it with my still functional Yashica 2000 FX3 Super......would make a nice little 35mm combo.
