Thanks for the welcome everyone. I've posted a few pictures in the Photo Gallery, plus some in the Sports Photography section of this forum. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

MT Shooter...is there any kind of photo store in Billings since the demise of Kasper's?

Having posted a message in the "Introduce Yourself" section, I got several requests for a posting of some of my photos. I'm always interested in constructive criticism.

Dave

I've also posted some photos over in the Sports Photography section of the forum and of course you can also check out my Flickr photostream too.

Here's one of my favorite softball photos from last summer. I took it during a clinic that was put on locally for girls of all ages.

Shot with a Tamron 70-300mm zoom at 165mm. f10 1/400 ISO 200

I've been lurking around here for awhile, so I finally decided to introduce myself. I'm in eastern Montana (no mountains here, just plenty of cows & oil rigs).

I've been interested in photography since I was about 10 and bought my first 35mm camera a few years later, a Pentax K1000. I later upgraded to a Pentax MX. Mostly I shot B&W which I processed in my own darkroom.

After college I drifted away from photography because I didn't have any place to set up a darkroom and I couldn't afford to pay for processing. Then a couple years back I got started again when I was teaching my dad how to use his Canon Point & Shoot digital that he had gotten for a birthday present. Within 6 months I'd invested in my Nikon D3000 and I've been having a blast.

I've had a number of photos printed in the local weekly newspaper (some sports and feature photos) plus I've been lucky enough to get a few photos printed in larger circulation publications. I've also been teaching a beginners class in digital photography for the local adult ed program this winter. That's a lot harder than it looks, but we've had some fun and I think the class has learned a few things.

If you're shooting sports on a tight deadline, such as for a daily newspaper, you might want to shoot jpg to save yourself the time it takes to convert the RAW images.

But I began shooting in the days of film, and you learned to get the shots you needed without shooting 6+fps bursts. At that rate I would have had to change film every 36 seconds. That gets a bit pricey. LOL

I started out shooting high school sports with my Pentax K1000 in the late 70's when I was in high school myself. Back then I used Kodak Tri-X and pushed it to ASA 1000 and processed the prints in my basement darkroom.

I got out of photography for many years because I couldn't afford to pay for processing and I didn't have anywhere to set up a darkroom for b&w. A little over a year ago I invested in a Nikon D3000 with the 18 to 55 mm kit zoom and a Tamron 70 to 300 zoom. Here are a few shots that got published in our local weekly.

The coach in the shot has a day job...he's the local county prosecutor. Can you imagine seeing him on the other side of the aisle if you were charged with a crime? LOL
