I've been lurking around here for awhile, so I finally decided to introduce myself. I'm in eastern Montana (no mountains here, just plenty of cows & oil rigs).

I've been interested in photography since I was about 10 and bought my first 35mm camera a few years later, a Pentax K1000. I later upgraded to a Pentax MX. Mostly I shot B&W which I processed in my own darkroom.

After college I drifted away from photography because I didn't have any place to set up a darkroom and I couldn't afford to pay for processing. Then a couple years back I got started again when I was teaching my dad how to use his Canon Point & Shoot digital that he had gotten for a birthday present. Within 6 months I'd invested in my Nikon D3000 and I've been having a blast.

I've had a number of photos printed in the local weekly newspaper (some sports and feature photos) plus I've been lucky enough to get a few photos printed in larger circulation publications. I've also been teaching a beginners class in digital photography for the local adult ed program this winter. That's a lot harder than it looks, but we've had some fun and I think the class has learned a few things.

Welcome Big Dave, happy to have you joining us. Congratulations on having some of your stuff printed. I was printed in the paper once, but it was just a couple of snapshot photos I took for a lady at my church who was being honored. One day I would like to get some others in the paper. Looking forward to reading some of your posts.

Welcome to the forum and I'd like to see a few examples of your work too!

Sounds like we have had similar life experiences, although I went with the Minolta XD-5 instead of the K1000.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I've posted a few pictures in the Photo Gallery, plus some in the Sports Photography section of this forum. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

MT Shooter...is there any kind of photo store in Billings since the demise of Kasper's?

Nothing even close Dave, I have to go to F11 in Bozeman for anything from here, or mostly online these days.

Hello Dave,
Maybe some day you consider a sort of a Online or via email teaching? If that is doable...let me know I am a real (Old) beginner ;-) and would be interested.

Buying online is very handy, but there's nothing like having someplace to do some in person window shopping and dreaming!
