can anyone help me decide on best lens and camera

but my issue is lenses ..i bought a f.2 image stable..cost over 2000.00 took it back was way to
cumbersome..now my thought is a f.4 70-200 image stable.
any thoughts..thanks

It depends on what you intend to shoot. I took a Canon 5D Mk3, 70-200/f4, 1.4 extender to an African safari. This combo worked well for me. The lens is light enough to hand hold. The extender reduces the max aperture to 5.6 but there was enough light to go. I shot in aperture priority set at f10 or f11. The ISO was usually low enough to avoid noise, except at or after sunset when the hippos come out of the water.
That's me, your mileage may vary depending on your needs.

MetaBones makes full-function Canon mount SpeedBoosters and adapters for Micro 4/3 (Olympus and Panasonic) cameras, too.

Thanks, I'll look into these adapters. I'll wait to see what Canon's mirror-less M5 looks like tomorrow. It seems that I'll need an adapter even with the M5 hence there'll be no particular benefit to stay with it. Full lens functionality is a big factor.

I asked a couple of weeks ago about Canon's full frame mirror-less body plans. The consensus among UHH folks was that Canon will not have a FF body soon but will come up with an ASP-C model in the next few days. So, here's my question - is it worth waiting for the Canon system (body and lenses since my L lenses may not work well with the mirror-less) or should I move to a Fuji, Olympus, etc system?

Thanks, Sam

I went on a safari earlier this year with a Canon 5D Mk3, 70-200/4/L, 1.4 extender, 24-105/4/L. I used the 70-200 + 1.4 combo in aperture priority (f10 or f11) on just about all safari shots. The 24-105 was used only in Victoria Falls and a Johannesburg city tour. This worked well for me. There were many close shots but also far away ones which I cropped. The lens is light so it was hand held. You can't use tripod in a Landrover anyway. I was limited in the total weight I could bring so this was a significant factor in my choice. There was usually enough light so the f5.6 max aperture wasn't a limiting factor.

I too started leaving the battery grip at home. My initial reason was that it didn't fit in a smaller camera backpack. I like having all the relevant buttons on top when shooting in the portrait position but I don't do it often. I had no problem when I went recently on an African safari. BTW, 95% of my images were taken with the 70-200/4L + 1.4 extender combo. I shot at Av, usually at f10.

I'm using a Canon 5D Mk3, 24-105, battery grip, GPS module. I would like to have lighter gear as I age so a full frame mirror-less body with internal GPS. Is Canon working on something along these lines? I know that Sony has a FF mirror-less body but I would like a Canon product.

Thanks, Sam

I agree with you on Popular Photography. I can hardly find anything of interest there. I'm a long time amateur, shooting family, landscape, etc. so I've no interest in selling my photos, photographing weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc. I don't have a studio, don't use interior lights, will never move to medium or large format. You get the idea. I had a subscription to Digital Photography which I liked better. Another good mag used to be Outdoor Photography. I haven't seen it lately. You can find a lot of good info and help online, such as UHH.

Hi,
Is it possible to merge two LR catalogues or import one into a second one?
Thanks, Sam

Thanks, it worked! I selected all images & changed names and keywords. It's easy when you know how to do it!

Hi,

I've a Canon 50mm/1.8 lens and would like to hear advice about acquiring a 50mm/1.4.
Is it worth it? If so, should I get Canon or a 3rd party lens?

Thanks

Hi,

I used the wrong file name during renaming while importing RAW images from a card into LR.
There're about 270 images. Is there a way to rename one image and then apply it to the rest?
Same about keywords - can I apply the ones assigned to a single image to the rest of them?

Thanks
