My camera bag slipped off my shoulder as I was lowering it to the floor. It hit where my 70-200 f2.8 was located. (It wasn't on the camera.) When I pulled off the lens cap - this is what I found.

I know there is a lot of debate around the value of a clear or UV filter. As a friend of mine who works in a camera store said, "people who damage lenses with clear filters are much happier than people who damage lenses without them. My lens works fine.

Take a look at Capture One plus Affinity Photo. Both have free trial periods.
Capture One to replace LR (yet do much more) and AP to replace PS.

This is the solution I've been using for about 2 years. I edit thousands of photos a year.

Hi - I am a relative newbie to astro photography. I've done a little with my Canon 5D3 and 24-105 f4.
I recently got a Canon R5 with 24 to 105 f4.
Can someone recommend a few lenses to look at for astro photography with the R5? I'm assuming that the 24-105 f4 isn't fast enough.
Thanks...

I often find that the best composition for a particular image does not fall into a standard photo size. (8 x 10, 8x 12, etc.) For those instances a custom mat can be used. Local stores will do a custom mat for around $30.

Seamless paper is great. You can get a stand for around $100 - and a roll of black and white. I have a 10' wide roll that fits in my SUV. It was around $70. If it gets stepped on - tear that part off.
You don't need to iron paper - and it doesn't catch dog hair.

Try and use the location around you - with low f-stops to blur the backdrop.

I am in the process of creating a photo book for an artist - using my photos of her artwork. I've researched a number of different limited run companies - Blurb, Shutterfly, MPIX, - all seem to have a similar price point. Others like Bay Photo and White House Custom Color look to be 2X the cost - but appear to offer higher quality.
We are looking at printing around 30 - so a high production run company doesn't make sense for this.

The goal of this book is to sell more original artwork - not to profit on the books. We estimate the books to cost around $60 each. (Still working on details.) Quality is important - so Costco is out. (Comments on Costco quality was not good.)
I'm leaning towards Blurb - partially based on past comments from other UHH posts where people thought Blurb was better than Shutterfly. Blurb's layout software looks to be flexible and easy to use. And they can generate a PDF which can be posted on a website.
One disappointing part is that we were looking for a 13 x 9 "portrait" layout which nobody offers. Most offer a 13 x 9 landscape which isn't great for an art book.

I'll give a update and lesson's learned report once this is done. As it's a collaboration - it might take a while. :)

I have the Canon Pro 1000 and like it a lot. No clogs.
I have an Epson All-In-One ET-3600. (For office work - not printing photos.) I have to clean it all the time.

I am looking for recommendations on hard cover photo book vendors. (Like Blurb) I took photos for a local artist, and she wants a hard cover book. Looking for high quality. I have never created a book before.
Thanks.

I don't order any expensive (>$200) camera gear on Amazon. B&H has similar - if not better pricing and real customer service with a person you can talk to.
I also buy at my local camera store - which often has similar - if not better pricing than Amazon - and I'm helped with a real person.

I have a 90mm Tamron macro lens that I love. The auto focus has stopped working. I have cleaned the contacts, but that didn’t fix it. When I depress the shutter half way, the lens just grunts. Can anyone offer any suggestions. My vision is very blurry ( cataracts)so manual focus is not reliable. Thanks.

I have the same 90mm Tamron in the Canon version where the auto focus stopped working. It's beyond warranty and not worth fixing. I now use it in manual mode when I'm on a tripod and focus with live view.

This is my second - and probably last Tamron lens. The first was a 150 to 600 G1 - which wasn't the sharpest.

Very cool. I think I've been there. I live in Enumclaw but haven't been up there yet this season.
Thanks.
