I have a 90mm Tamron macro lens that I love. The auto focus has stopped working. I have cleaned the contacts, but that didn’t fix it. When I depress the shutter half way, the lens just grunts. Can anyone offer any suggestions. My vision is very blurry ( cataracts)so manual focus is not reliable. Thanks.

Some ideas -
https://www.google.com/search?q=tamron+90mm+stopped+focusing&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS925US925&oq=tamron+90mm+stopped+focusing&aqs=chrome..69i57.9399j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

It will probably need a trip to Tamron - or replacement.

Only thing I can think of is to set 1/2 press off and use back button focus. Which camera? Or maybe get your cataracts "fixed"

My cataracts are to be fixed as soon as my husband recovers from his surgery. Will try the back button focus though

Try another lens just to make sure it’s not the camera.

Is it still under warranty? Tamron offers a six year warranty on most of its lenses. Gary https://www.tamron-usa.com/support/warranty.html

I have the same 90mm Tamron in the Canon version where the auto focus stopped working. It's beyond warranty and not worth fixing. I now use it in manual mode when I'm on a tripod and focus with live view.

This is my second - and probably last Tamron lens. The first was a 150 to 600 G1 - which wasn't the sharpest.

1) Tamron has a 6 year warranty 2) It is better to manual focus in macro, I find it is best to manual focus and have the camera on a track to fine tune. But fix it at Tamron 6 year

If it's still under warrantee(Tamron has a 6 year warrantee), send it back to Tamron. I have the same lens and had no problems. The Auto and Manual focus is a push pull ring. Make sure it is in Auto Focus which is fully pulled out.

Two suggestions:

> If your lens is less than six years old and you have the original sales receipt for it, contact Tamron about warranty repair.

> If you have been told you need and can have cataract surgery, know that it really works well. I had my lenses implanted in both eyes in 2007 or so and it was the best decision I ever made. It was simple, painless, and merely annoying for the number of eyedrops I had to use for a few weeks. Now I only need glasses to read and work within a few feet.

I agree. My vision was almost down below 20%. I also had a small tear on my retina which was repaired. My vision returned and now can see and read, although reading glasses are required.

Thank you, plan on that surgery in the near future.

Agree about manual focus for macro. I used to set the distance and then moved in to get focus, but now with my blurry vision I can’t tell if it’s in focus. So frustrating.
