Epson or Canon printer?

I am going to buy a printer that will print 16x20 prints. I really like the Epson printer we used in photo classes I took. But I hear about the ink jet ports getting clogged. Do the Canon ports clog just as easily?

If you have experience with both what do you think?

For years I have had all of my prints done thru Millers. But I want to start printing my own now. Excellent quality is what I am looking for.

Want to stay under $3,000 with an initial supply of ink.

Jim, I'd lean towards Epson. I know a number of people who print large-sized prints. They prevent clogging by simple periodic maintenance procedures.

It also helps if the printer is used frequently.

I haven't used an Epson printer in years. The models I used in the past did clog up, and cleaning didn't completely clear things up. I'm sure this doesn't apply to the present or they wouldn't be selling many printers. My 5 year old Canon AIO printer has never clogged. It seems to automatically clean the print ports from time to time as I wait for a print.

I have been a user of Epson for abt 30 yrs, very recently replace an R3000 with P700. The P900 will print your larger size. Drawback is cost of ink. Ten carts at $38 a pop is steep. I hear the P900 is abit less exp.

I have used the Epson P900 for about a year. It's a superb printer, and I have had absolutely no problem with a clogged printer head.

I quit using Epson printers due to problems with internal ink leakage, and switched to Canon pixma pro 100 which has never had any clogs or leakage over 6½ years.

Been using an Epson P800 for years. It can print "17x22" and 17 x ??? using canvas roll. I do try to make a couple of prints every week to keep the nozzles clean.

The Epson will clog & the Canon most likely not. If your going with the Epson& you don't think you will beprinting at least once a week or be away for a couple or more weeks, purchase Qimage Ultimate. It a option to schedule a auto print for this very reason. Just load the tray & print 4x6" evaluation print & it won't clog. Have fun with your new printer. The Epson P900 is way under your price range , even with a couple of sets of ink cartridges.

I'm using an Epson P800 and live in a very humid climate. The longest it has set without use was 6 months. I started up by cleaning the heads, then ran the test print. It was fine. I used to live in Arizona and regular printers can dry up in a week.
The inks are expensive on the P800 but actually print a lot more than I expected. I love the quality.

I have an Epson "All in one" and Love it. It has been trouble-free, but it doesn't come close to your needs/wants. For prints I use Costco.
Best of luck on your quest. . .

I have 2 Epson printers currently. Both produce exceptional prints. Never a problem. One gets used quite often, the other often sits 6mo or more between uses. I've never had a clogged head. I always use Epson ink and when not in use I shut them down using the printer's power button. That allows the printer to go through a head cleaning process which I believe makes a big difference. My guess is that the people who have clogging issues either never shut off their printer or who shut down by turning off a power strip. Other then replacing ink cartridges I have never performed any maintenance or had any problems in all the years I have had Epsons. My wife has an Epson that is probably 10yr old and rarely gets used. Still works perfectly.

I have had an Epson printer for years. Sometimes goes months without printing and still prints fine. I do keep it turned on all the time

I've had a Canon Pro1000 and Pro100 for years and never experienced a clog in either one. There's often a longer interval between prints on the Pro 100, and because of the different type printhead on Canon printers clogging is not an issue.

Be careful if you buy Canon. I have a new M1 Mac and canon does not have print drivers for thier office printers for OS 11.5.1.

I’m just saying be sure there are drivers for the machine you are using.
