I recently bought a book by Scott Kelby on a discard pile at the local library...donated $5. IMHO, it is one of the best photography books on the market.

The Digital Photography Book Part 1 Second Edition 2013 From the back cover: "This isn't a book of theory-full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts. This is a book on which button to push, which setting to use, and when to use it.... Each page covers a single concept that makes your photography better."

Tempest in a teapot. Either sue for copyright violation or let it go.

I do NOT care that she used my photograph! I apologize if I have given that impression. I was just asking for advice about signage of the prints. Obviously she is the artist and should get top-billing. I was not sure if I, the photographer of the image she used for inspiration (a very good rendition), should receive any recognition/ attribution.

...and the plot thickens! Actually, I do not know the artist and I did not give her permission to use my photograph. The artist is a friend of a friend. I am leaning toward having her sign the piece on the front and putting my attribution on the back. As someone previously commented, perhaps this collaboration will develop further, and in that case, we need to cross our t's and dot our i's.
Thank-you for your comment!

I am digesting all of your thoughts and appreciate your responses. If the situation were reversed (I am the artist and she is the photographer), I would want to give the photographer some credit, but that's just me. However, the artwork being a derivative and not a collaborative piece does throw a different light on the subject.

Thank-you for your suggestions!

A friend of a friend, unbeknownst to me, created a watercolor from one of my photographs. We are having prints (not for sale) made of the watercolor which will be mounted on white stock paper.

My question: How should the piece be signed? The original photograph will not be visible. I was thinking something like "Watercolor by XXXX XXXXXX, inspired by a photograph by XXXX XXXXXXX." I am hung up on the wording. All ideas will be appreciated!

OR, perhaps I should not receive any recognition? In this case, the wording is a moot point.

All of the venues suggested for you to visit in Charleston are great! I would add the Unitarian Church Cemetery on King Street. It is not manicured and the overgrown vegetation makes it really spooky at night if you take the ghost tour. I captured some great images there; the B & Whites are really noteworthy IMHO. "The Holy City" and environs are lovely. McClellanville is about 30 miles north on 17...a small, quaint little village with one restaurant, an active art's council, a small nautical museum, and lots of live oaks. On the way to McClellanville in Awendaw is the Center for Birds of Prey: worth the trip! Google it as the hours for different events vary.

I am not a BIF shooter, but after looking at my photos of stationary GBHs, I decided I needed to be more patient and capture a bird "doing something." Obviously I need more practice (images not tack sharp), but this is a start. I shot these out of the window of a three-story condo.
