Another trick that works is to adopt the shooting stance mentioned in the links and put your left elbow, which is holding the lens, against your abdomen, right around/below your rib cage. Hit the shutter after a long slow exhale. Practice it repeatedly. I was able to steady my handhold down to 1/15 seconds.

Been weighing the differences lately, between a 70D, a 77D, and an 80D ....

The first two are exactly the same price, now ... (the 70D's a lot older, that's why ... )

The 80D is newer, and to many - would seem to be the logical choice, but ....

First off - it will cost you $300 to $400 more ...

Secondly, the ISO capability is vastly improved - over the earlier model ...

Then, of course - the 77D is both smaller and lighter than either of the other two ...

And, did I tell you this ... could be the deal-breaker, to many ...

The 77D does stabilized video !!!!!!

Wow!!! ... I mean - DOUBLE-WOWWWWWW !!!!!

Been weighing the differences lately, between a 70... (show quote)

A refurbished 80D could cut the price difference by quite a bit and I really enjoy using my 80D. When I compared the size and weight difference between the 77D and 80D, I certainly didn’t think it was a big deal and the feel of the 80D’s grip was very
comfortable.

First, it's only 20MP ... like the D500 and the D5 ...

Right, less pixels means BIGGER pixels ... there - I've saved you the argument ...

But, the D7200 is a little less, now ... and has 24MP ... just like its predecessor - the D7100 ...

Both of the above fore-mentioned - also have dual SD card slots (as does THEIR predecessor - the D7000) ...

Oh, and here's the kicker ... I'll bet you didn't KNOW this one, huh, guys?

It lacks the all-important screw - which means it WON'T work with older Nikon lenses ... they really screwed YOU on this one!!!!

Ah, but - it DOES have - a tilt screen!!!!!

Whoopee-doo!!!!

Ok you’ve convinced me, I’ll stick with Canon.

Congrats on the new camera, new lens, and your generous husband. If your husband adopts me I’m housebroken, can fix computers and electronic gear, and always remember Father’s Day!

If so, do you use the kind that goes around the lens, or the kind that's attached to a strap lug on your body? ...

If you don't use either kind ... what do you DO with your cap, when you're shooting?

Untethered. I stick it in my back jeans pocket. I always carry lens cloths and microfiber in my camera bag so I give the lens filter a quick wipe when I uncap and when I recap. Simple and works for me.

What I do with manual focus lenses that I utilize for Night Sky photography is to focus during the day at an object about 20 ft then use gaffer tape to hold the focus ring in place. I also make the ring where the focus is gives me infinity for that lens

A number of products that I have owned that lasted far longer than their warranty and had to be sold, given away, or donated and were still fully functional were not rated well at all by Consumer Reports, so I don’t subscribe and don’t pay any attention to CR ratings.

Thank you so much for valuable input. I really appreciate and charge it to your sound judgement and experience. Please if you have any more valuable tips, don't hesitate to share them with me. Thank you sir.

So once you try out and handle different camera systems at the camera store and have limited it down to one or two different ones, rent each finalist for a week or so. Try before you buy - make sure it fits and is comfortable to use before you plop down your $$. Shopping should be part of the fun. Best of Luck and welcome to UHH.

Hmmmm, only a professional photographer with an array of high quality Nikon lenses would really need a D850. But....if the bills are paid, the roof doesn’t leak, the family is comfortable, and you can afford it, why not buy the latest and greatest camera? Life is just too freakin’ short. It’s been said a ton of times here that a new camera won’t improve my photography; however, a new camera that I enjoy and have fun using will make me practice, learn, redo, practice, read, learn and eventually maybe improve my photography.

I suggest something simple to all the complainers:

Go back to the stone age. Progress is never free there is always a cost and not only in $$$.

You don't like paying? There are free GOOD alternatives like GIMP. You don't like MS? Use Linux. (mac is way too expensive for you too - you pay a premium for that ' cool junk'*)

Paying is a choice, not a requirement so complaining about YOUR own choices is rather odd, is it not?

The OS driving the changes? No. It is the hardware. CPU and graphic cards are more performing demanding than ever from 8 bit to 64. Communication, network, wireless or connection to internet also demand newer equipment. None of these are free yet most of you demand that the OS does not change so that you can use old software that is basically useless in this new environment. Speaking of OS (MS in particular) are the complainants here aware that there is a 'compatibility mode' that allows the use of 'old' XP software???

---------
* No, it is not an attack on mac users, just that it is way more expensive than a regular PC feature for feature.
I suggest something simple to all the complainers:... (show quote)

Rich1939 opened the Pandora’s box and we old schoolers want to vent a bit. We’re NOT from the Stone Age or even the Old West. I’m know that I have to update my laptop, desktop, and smartphone, long before they give up the ghost because secure OS and apps require more robust hardware. I’m simply not thrilled with subscription software and storage services and am now on the hunt for a bigger faster external hard drive.

I recently retired from an IT job. I’m pretty old school and gleefully moved out of an apartment to buy my first home in 1983. I’ve alway bought my vehicles and started paying it off and buying cash for cars and trucks in 1992. I’m used to buying the software up front and getting free patches when needed. When I needed software for web graphics at work I saw PhotoShop’s price and instead bought PaintShop Pro and taught myself to do what I needed.

Now I see MS Office, PS, LR and all the Cloud storage options are leased by the month. It indeed reminds me of Comcast and Verizon, which IMHO are a scourge on humankind....and I’m a reluctant, annoyed customer of both services.

I know renting and leasing are much more popular options for housing and vehicles because you don’t have to save for a big down payment and it’s easier to get out of a lease than sell but it’s just not as palatable to me. And there’s really nothing wrong with me because I prefer to own not lease, but I’ll just have to suck it up I guess.

Hi everyone,
I am expecting a delivery from UPS today for a Canon eos 77D from Adorama. The cost was $799.00 and upon reviewing the tracking information it doesn’t mention a signature being required. It seems to me that any item with that dollar amount would require a signature upon delivery. Is it me, or does that seem odd? Luckily I am in a position that I can watch out for the delivery today, but if I wasn’t, I would really be concerned. Has anyone else had this experience?

It might be a bit late for this but maybe for next time: 1) if you order by calling ask the sales person to send it with signature required. When I ordered from B & H, my sales rep told me that I would have to sign for it. 2) set up an account with UPS and once the package is shipped you can request they hold it at the nearest UPS center for pick up. 3) For your camera today, hopefully it’s beautiful fall weather and you can camp out on your front porch to wait on your new camera.
Too bad I can’t loan you my dog. All my dogs over the years instinctively DESPISE UPS and FEDEX drivers so they’ll bark and howl when the truck pulls up.

Best of luck and congratulations on your new camera!
