I watched and read some reviews of the new Nikon Zf, and the reviewers gushed over it. Nikon seems to have come up with another winner. With the Z8 and Z6 II, I'm all set for the foreseeable future. However, if they ever introduce one with a silver body...

A true "custom printer" will print any size and aspect ratio you want. I use Coupralux in Dallas. They will print my full image, without cropping, with exactly the border that I request. They will print a "full-size" image, with exactly one printer dot per image pixel, or any size larger or smaller than that.

Coupralux will also spend as much as 30 minutes (some techs will spend up to an hour) doing final adjustments to make sure their process gives the results that I intended with no extra charge. I've not printed there in the last few months while recovering from knee surgery, but my cost has always been reasonable...$.10 per square inch of printed area and $.05 per square inch of white border. This is on Baryta paper, which is very nice, substantially heavy, textured material.

I'm sure other printers offer similar service and prices.

That's how I handle that issue also. I don't crop my images to fit the standard print sizes. That tends to change your intended composition. I order sizes that fit the 2:3 digital sensor aspect ratio. For example; 12x18, 18x27 or 2'x3'. It does cost a little more for "custom" sizes, but I like the resulting print.

Your first image is really outstanding. The lighting, composition, eyes and facial expression make for an impactful photograph. Very well done!

I do it in pse program.
I save as jpeg, select file size, save.
I select around 5 or 6.

I use PSE also. I goto: file/process multiple files. For the level of compression that he said was required I would set Resolution to 300 and set jpeg to medium quality. See if that gets close to the mark. The actual file is different for every image, but they will be similar.

So an image can be a photograph for someone who is moved by it, and just random photon detritus to someone who does not react to it?

My goto len's cleaner is the LensPen. It takes care of 90% of my len's cleaning requirements when I'm out and about. A microfiber lens cloth takes care of the rest.

I'm doing a presentation for junior high children on Composition, and want to start with the question, " what the difference between a picture vs a photograph?" My answer is a picture is a memory you take for memories sake, a photograph is a memory you take after planning it out and carefully choosing how, when , why , where and who.
I know you hogs probably can give me a better description and that sometimes a picture becomes a lucky photograph. Any positive help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

According to a photography book I read years ago, the definitions go like this. A snapshot is an image of what you see. If it has good composition then it's a picture. If it provokes an emotional response in the viewer then it is a "photograph!" Some purist say that it is only a photograph when it's printed.

Thaz OK. Real photographers dont print anymore ... thaz for hobbyist fossils and "arts fair" peddlers wearing berets.

That's me. If an image isn't suitable for a print, what is it good for?

This series of images is from an assignment for a Travel Photography class I took last winter (I would like to know which college administrator thought it was a good idea to schedule this class in the winter time, I'll bet you're wondering too!). The assignment was to photograph our home as a travel destination. I decided to do mine as a bed and breakfast. Unfortunately there was an equipment failure and our instructor (Sara-rose Melby) was not able to share our pics with the class. So, for entertainment purposes, I thought that would share them with you! I particularly like the last three frames.

I haven't tried any of those programs yet. I was wondering how the results compare to DXO's Pure Raw? The DXO app has been getting really good reviews.

Hi Jerry, I've seen all the movies. One rule, never task the AI to make the world safe or bring on end to war! In every SiFi movie with that theme, things go south for us helpless human beings right after letting an AI make us safer.
