"German photographer Boris Eldagsen won the creative open category at last week's Sony World Photography Award with the AI-generated image. Eldagsen claims he entered the photo to test the competition and to drive a conversation about the future of photography."

Along the same lines, AI has been imitating professional singers. For good or for bad, AI is here to stay. I suspect "bad" is going to win.

I suspect it is and you’re right ‘bad’ is currently winning…like anything else, AI will be as good or bad as the person or institution using it. Congress and lawmakers have reason to worry

AI Congress and Lawmakers, Ai Lawyers and Judges? How 'bout AI Presidents, VP's? I suppose couldn't be much worse than what we've seen from those with "real" "intelligence"...

AI, like any other cleverly arranged bunch of logic gates, only does what it's told to do. So whether it's "Good" or "Bad" depends entirely on who's doing the telling.

Check out what Elon Musk has to say about AI. NOT good! But everything has an upside and a downside!

AI has the potential or maybe is already there to exceed human intelligence quota.

As noted by CPO Elon Musk has said (paraphrasing) ‘humans have survived for eons by being smarter than all the other animals. We are entering a new era in which humans are not the smartest creatures anymore’

It’s really not that AI is good or bad. The problem is our society is not ready for this. We don’t have the necessary controls, laws, guidelines and mores to control its use.

This is why Elon suggests we pause AI development. But that won’t happen.

Get ready for a wild ride.

If it’s not created by light can it be called photography?

Read the article all the way to the end. The photographer had very specific motives for entering and specific responses to winning.

There has been another discussion going on about this for three days already. Unfortunately, it may be on the way to The Attic due to an unfortunate comment this morning.

one Troll’s post won’t cause that but if UHHers take the bait then it will get kicked to the attic. The best response to a Troll’s bait is no response. Hopefully that is what will happen.

If it's created by light and mutilated by post processing can it be called photography!

I think Mac has a good point.
To Photograph means to paint with light. If you record a photograph then change it you are still starting with the painting with light. If AI doesn’t take the photograph, control the camera , or at least start with an image file, then it’s not truly a photograph. It’s a computer generated graphic masquerading as a photograph. I.e., it’s a FAKE! 😂

I think I think so. It started with light.
