Iam not sure I would take a lot of what has been told in this letter. What I see here a flat school pictures. Not sure how much time you have for the kids. With over 28 years shooting professionally, not sure I can just rattle off settings to shoot people of color. Yes, I have photographed many colors of skin and each has it s own settings. Do to this, I don't believe you will get what you want by a standard one shot fits all setting. Look around you at the hundreds of colors in the black population. White people have many variations but nothing compared to the black population as far as skin color and tone. The texture is unique with each person. When they look at you and then away there are also subtle changes. Yes, you can line up a group, take a few shots and all will be ok with it. I know you are doing this for free but I still want to represent myself well as it may lead to many other jobs not for free. Personally I would start with them in real shade and use a reflector to bring out highlights in each. If you are happy with the results, they will probably be thrilled. Good luck and have Fun shooting them

Picasa was almost too easy, but take a look at ON-1, it is self explanatory and much easier than I thought but simple to learn to use. The U tubes on the product are great. It beats PS a long way in my opinion.

I have used Nissin for about 10 years. Never had a failure or non fire and I often use 3-4 at an event.

Jerry I would think twice. If it did it once it will probably do it again down the road. That is a mechanical error and unless fixed they don't go away. I know how frustrating that can be but trust your instincts.

Yes, your photos are as they should be but I hope you carry insurance on your equipment. After 28 years I have never walked out the door without knowing everything was covered. I have shot in some scary areas and thankfully the insurance has saved my pocketbook on a couple occasions. It is always worth the money for your sanity. Would you walk out your door with $10000 dollars cash in your pocket? Neither would I !!

Haven"t used a strobe made by the same manufacture as my camera for so many years I can't remember.
That myth went out the window years ago. Just no practical reason to do so and it rarely saves you money.

Not sure the Wimberly is the right answer but not too far off, you will just be about $650 lighter. Would suggest you try one first, they are very nice but some do have problems using them.

I would make a suggestion if you don't mind. Reflect just a bit more light on the manufactures name and they would purchase your image. Very nice job on the metal and defining the image very well.

Nice shots but unbelievable when someone thinks it is all about the equipment.

After 28 years in the business my conclusion is if I am happy with them and the bride pays me and sends me a referral, I am Golden. At some point you and your client are really the only ones that count. You know, the person that pays the bill. Yes we all want to get better but I still believe what I said is the bottom, bottom line.
