I moved over to Sony when the full frame a7 came out. I love it. Bought the Metabones adapter so I could continue to use my Canon Lenses, also bought the Zeiss FE 2.8 35mm which is a great lens also. I use the a7 for my studio work, being full frame it is a great camera and the quality of the pictures it takes are outstanding.

Then I purchased the Sony a6000 which I use now as a walk around snapshot it has a high shot rate, (up to 11 per second) very happoy with this purchase also.

I have to say I don't miss the Canon DSLR bodies at all

You will spend a lot of money getting Canon to repair it, I had one and it did it from new, went back under warranty and it started doing it 6 months later. Use the latex band or something similar.

You will be amazed at the picture quality you get from a full frame camera A7R compared to an ASPC canon 550, or Sony ASPC. The sensor and its physical size, and the resonance it produces (lines in picture, like pixels) just produces so much more detail, plus your ability to crop and still have an amazing picture goes up.

you will need a lot of ram in your computer as well as storage for the size of files it produces, and you will be served best by shooting in raw developing to tiff and then final editing in Photoshop or Corel. Not knowing the type of photography you are interested (and maybe specializing in) makes a big difference to the question you are asking and the answer members will give you, family photo and ball games the A7R is probably overkill.
The lenses available the 2 that I have bought are the Zeiss 35mm and the 55mm. the rating in DXO and DPR is just phenomenal and my money is well spent I believe, but I specialize in product and commercial photography so I can view them as an investment into my work and not worry about the cost of them. Other lenses will be along soon, as well as third
party ones eventually. It's a great camera I love mine

Pulled out of Canon bodies, (kept a Canon T4i) now I use my Canon L glass Primes and 3 zooms with the SONY NEX 7 AND SONY-A7

Combined with the Metabones Speedbooster and the Metabones Smart Adapter both cameras give me APSC crop and Full frame, both adapters can be used on either body.

Strange way to go I guess but it's working out nicely and a lot of new Sony, Zeiss, Sigma, Samyang or Canon lenses coming up in the future to pick from

I bought into the nex7 9 months ago, I shoot cannon but wanted a smaller body and went for the Nex.
I also bought the Meta ones adapter SPEEDBOOSTER, so I can use my Canon lenses on it. This makes the lenses faster, a,so wider angle so its like shooting with a full frame body.

I use the s
Sony 18-55. 3 Sigma lenses the 19, 30, 60. The new versions,
Love them all but the 60 is just fantastic.

I also have to add so is using my Canon 70-200 {with full stabilization) on the Speedbooster, It causes a real adrenalin rush when you see the outstanding sharpness of this triple combination.

I love the NEX 7, but one complaint only, it takes time to master all the menu combinations, most of which you can forget in reality and just setup for manual.

Silkypix, my first choice

All of them have their quirks so far as getting accustomed to using them.
But all are capable of producing good photographs. What makes a big difference to all of us is that they offer so many choices for color rendition and sharpness etc. By comparison to the days of film when your only choice was between a few companies products.
We are also left with enormous choices of monitors and color correction of those and computers with systems which also produce big variations in color.
Then there are printers and profiles
Printer papers.
Etc. Etc.Etc.
So overall we are really down to seeing what we believe to be a really great end product but it might not look so good on our neighbours computer............

I have never used Silkypix and know next to nothing about it.
Now I'm curious. What makes it your first choice? Performance?

Options? Results?[/quote]

Regarding preference of Silky over Light room is really an operation preference.
LIghtroom is aggressive in picture storage and for ever trying to upload my pictures and I prefer my filing system, that's really my pet peeve with Light room.
Silky has no filing system trying to impose it's self into my life.

Silky has excellent colour default, slightly muted if anything, its sharpening is very good at default also. The noise removal again is not aggressive but its default s good, HDR is one slider and pulls out the details in shadow and black very well.

I am retained by a catalogue company which produces stationery products, wedding invites and other such items, the shots are produced in the first instance for CMYK catalogue printing and colour correction is of the utmost importance in this respect.

Have to capture paper quality, embossing, metallic finishes, high gloss pearls silver etc.
So I don,t want heavy sharpening, heavy handed noise removal and heavy saturated colours. Lightroom defaults gives me a little too much of everything and Phase One's Capture One Pro usually an excessive amount of over correction and saturation.
Silky also allows for easy file deleting and easy lenses corrections without having to have profiles etc.
Not trying to do a sell job, so I'll stop there, if anyone wants ,more input I'll be glad to chat more.

I use one daily for product photography and ha e no problems with it.
On Amazon it has 330 reviews and. Comes out with a high rating. Check Fred Miranda it has a good rating in there.

I have to say I checked mine carefully when it came and it was better (sharper) than the Canon 24-75 L I was using, so much better I traded out the Canon.
