Any/many mirrorless camera users at UHH?

I'm becoming more and more interested in this smaller gear....with specific interest in the Canon EOS-M. Anyone here with "M" experience? If so, I'd like to hear just what you think about it.

But not holding my breath; as I feel that UHH fans are not too hot about mirrorless gear. (And that's OK.)

Thanks. Bob

Last year I made the transition from a Nikon D600, D700, D2xs working set up to a All Fuji one. I do still need the Nikon bodies for telephoto work but 85% of my landscape work is now down via the Fuji bodies.

Because I do a lot of film work, I may just sell the Nikon digital bodies and stick to slidefilm in my F5 when I need "full frame" 35mm.

I have the Canon EOS-M with 18-55mm lens. I have been very happy so far. It's size makes it a joy to carry. I just brought it on a five hour hike. I had it around my neck the entire time and hardly noticed it.

I can't tell the difference between the images coming from it and my T3i. Autofocus is slow, but not as bad as I thought it might be. When set to burst mode, i've even managed to get some good shots with movement. The autofocus speed is pretty terrible when used with the adapter to EF lenses.

I think it's a great camera to carry when you don't want a big DSLR or don't need to capture fast action.

I have a Nikon 1 V1, just bought the J1 because it is smaller and thus more mobile. I do use my D5000 when I want a 18-270 or a 10-24 lens. I am planning to get my D60 converted to IR. There is a place for all.

I considered the EOS-M, but it's too closely related in form and function to the Canon DSLRs, and I'm a camera racist. Olympus micro four thirds was fine for me, two generations removed from the mirrors and a few more generations from larger frame sensors.

But seriously, I'm only a racist about camera manufacturers. Most of my best friends are black cameras and lenses.

I'm here with the Nikon 1 V1, but I'm going to sell it and move up to Micro Four Thirds, but still mirrorless.

I started with the GH1 and moved up to the GH3. More than happy as a travel camera. They do not have "steal me" written all over them like the Nikon stolen in South America a few years back. I shoot still and AVCHD video

Bob - because of their history, reputation and sheer size you would expect that Canon and Nikon would enter the "mirrorless" market in a blaze of glory, all-singing and all-dancing. That they have both singularly failed to do. Some say it's because of their need to protect their major product lines, the DSLR.

The success of Olympus and Panasonic with their micro 4/3 cameras and dominant lens line-up, along with the undoubted quality provided by Fuji (who started at the pro and enthusiast level and are working down from that stance) and by Sony, will undoubtedly be making Canon and Nikon "think again". They will have to, or they will see their market share drop.

I saw the benefits (to me) of mirrorless 4 years ago and went micro 4/3. I bought (used on eBay) terrific examples of the Panasonic GF1 and 20mm f1.7 lens, and added an Olympus 45mm f1.8. Took some cracking pics !

Being a Nikon DSLR user (still am) I also bought a Nikon 1 V1 because of the good picture quality for the sensor size and the blazing fast focus speed. I added the FT1 mount adapter to be able to get some telephoto distance from my current lenses. Due to the sensor you get a x2.7 increase in focal length from Nikon's 1 series. That turned my 85mm f1.8 into a 230mm f1.8 whilst retaining all functions I needed. Great versatility ! The one downside was that I had to go into the menu to change exposure values.

Then along came the Fuji X-E1 with it's superb 18-55mm f2.8 to f4 lens. So much easier to use. APS-C sensor. Incredible results in both good and low light. I bought that and sold all my Nikon and Micro 4/3 stuff, whilst retaining my Nikon DSLR. There's a company called "Metabones" which produces first class mount adapters (Nikon G to Fuji X) which enables me to use my Nikon lenses (only in manual focus regrettably) with my Fuji, and "focus peaking" has recently been added to the X-E1 to assist in manual focus. Results are totally satisfactory FOR ME !

If you follow the "mirrorless" world (use this site for things mirrorless - http://www.sansmirror.com/) you will find that the market accepted mirrorless to the greatest degree in Asia first of all, then Europe, with the USA lagging considerably behind. So it's good to see more of our American cousins coming aboard to enjoy the benefits in their own individual ways. Someone earlier in the thread said "there's room for both" - and I concur. There's no need for either camp to shoot its mouth off or go over the top about "which is best". That's a highly individual thing. I just happen to enjoy having a foot in both camps !

I recently purchased Sony Alpha A7r and I like it very much, especially the Electronic Viewfinder. It has been too cold here to go out and shoot much, but so far I am impressed with it.

I tried the Sony NEX system, but went back to my Nikon DSLRs. Nothing wrong with the NEX. It just wasn't for me. I didn't like the EVF, and I preferred the greater control I seemed to have with the Nikons.

If someone is starting out in serious photography, I think a mirrorless would make sense.

I just got a refurbished Olypmus E-P3 with the kit 14-42mm F3.5-5.6...Haven't used it a lot as I'm awaiting for adapters so as to be able to use my older MF Leica,Nikon, Minolta & Konica lenses on it. I like the few images I've taken so far though. I'll likely get the EFV for it. Not overly fond of the touch screen it sports

My regular camera is Canon 5D Mark iii and I had recently bought Sony NEX7 as a backup and also an option for travel. While NEX7 is not 5D, it is very good and I had taken some very nice photos with it. In fact, I am planning a 2+ weeks trip to Europe and am considering carrying it in lieu of 5D because of its size and weight. Trey Ratcliff switched from his Nikon 800 to Sony NEX7.

I have both an X100S and an X-Pro1 and a Metabones Speed Booster

Love them to death.

No "M" experience though.
