You can see quite a bit from the roads. Homer, Seward, Whittier, Valdez, Girdwood, Anchorage, Talketna, Denali, Fairbanks, and many other places are on the highway system. And beautiful scenery abounds everywhere you go. And I highly recommend a train trip from Anchorage to Seward or Anchorage to Denali and day cruises out of Seward or Whittier . . . You will get different views and perspectives. I've been here 30 years and have been to all the places I listed above as well as King Salmon, Galena, Kodiak, and Shemya by air. Unless you have unlimited funds and years of time, you'll miss a lot, but you'll see a lot also. I still find beautiful sights daily right here in town (Anchorage). Whatever you do, you'll enjoy and appreciate . . .

Whoops . . . I just looked on my 5500, and couldn't find that option . . . I prefer military time anyway . . .

For 1300 to 2400, just subtract 12 . . . Now if you're talking about a tablet, computer, or camera . . . It should be somewhere in your menu or set up instructions. . .

I was downtown at Stewart's Photo when they started, but duh . . . , didn't have my camera . . .

The long mounting foot on my long telephoto slides in and out very easily, and the other camera clip releases with just the push of a button. I'll most likely use it while walking and hiking, and carry a tripod or monopod with me. Haven't tested it out on the trails yet cause we have several feet of snow, but it works fine walking around in the house. I've not done it yet, but I know many wildlife photographers routinely shoot the long lenses handheld, especially when shooting birds in flight.

I made this yesterday . . . lots of leather, Chicago screws, and a Peak Design Capture camera clip. The pouched area on top accepts the long foot of my Tamron 150-600 tripod mount, and the Capture camera clip will take the tripod mount on the bottom of my camera.

I think the Tamron 70-300 is an excellent choice for a tele zoom. Also another good choice for an "everything" lense is the Tamron 18-270 . . . it covers everything from mild wide angle to telephoto. I have one that was used on my D3300 and now on D5500. If I'm traveling and can take only one lens . . . it's my choice. If I was taking 2 lenses . . . I'd add a super wide angle . . . my Tokina 11-16mm to my kit . . . .

That's why I don't buy online . . . I get my stuff (new or used) at my local camera shop. And always have an opportunity to open and inspect before paying. Their pricing is comparable with online stores, and I don't have to wait on shipping, and I'm supporting my local economy. I have bought a couple things off of craigs list, but once again it was local face to face and I could inspect. . .

I have the Tokina 11-16 mm and think it is an outstanding lens. It's very sharp . . .

Unless doing super wide or super telephoto, I have the Tamron 18-270 lens on my camera most of the time. It is my do anything walk around lens. Really like it . . .

I used to get camera gear from "Best Buy" . . . the best part about doing that is if you tell them you saw it at xxx online for cheaper, they'll jump on the internet and look it up and give you the same deal . . . and a Nikon is a Nikon is a Nikon, right . . . but I soon outgrew their inventory and found that my local camera shop had the same prices as best buy and online, AND a much much larger selection of lenses, accessories, and everything else, and I don't have to wait for the brown truck . . . plus I'd prefer to support my local economy.

I take my Nikon D5500, 18-270mm lens, SD cards, spare battery w/charger, Lens Pen. This all doesn't take up too much room and I still have all the DSLR features and options available to me and don't have to learn a new camera system. The 18-270mm covers just about all the ranges I'm likely to need. If I were to take one more lens, it would be my super wide 11-16mm. All fits easily into my smallish carry on bag leaving room for my tablet, razor & toothbrush, medicines, spare set of clothes. Just my druthers . . .

Back in the mid 70's I had a Canon TX and then added an AE1. At the time, as now, Canon and Nikon were the major players. I really wanted a Nikon, but the Canon's were a bit cheaper. I was in the USAF stationed in Guam. Ten years later, I went with the point and shoot digitals and have used them for years until about a year ago when I decided to get a DSLR. So . . . I looked hard both Canon and Nikon. I went with the Nikon D3300 cause I felt it was the best deal for the money and like all it's features. About 10 months later I got a GAS attack and upgraded to a D5500 body which I really like for the features, and I had already built a stable of lenses. Now I want a D500, but will have to sell a couple of guns or a kidney . . . They are like your laptops, cell phones, computers, and other tech stuff . . . as soon as you finally are able to get the latest and greatest . . . the next generation of latest and greatest will come along. . . . SO . . . to answer the OP's question, go with the camera that has the features you want, but I'd recommend sticking with the two big names because of all the available lenses and accessories for them.

I've got a Tamron 150-600 G2. On a tripod, I'll turn the VC off . . . But not sure what I should do when using a Monopod. . . I think things could still be pretty shakey at 600 with a monopod. . . . When the weather is better (another couple months) I'll be able to do some testing, but for now, I'm Seeking Advise . . .
