I am getting a little tired of changing lenses, so I was considering the Tamron 18-200 with V.R. cost is a big consideration. I want a walk around lens, any thoughts on this lens would help. Thanks in advance.........Mike.

Your might want to compare the new Tamron 16-300 with VR for a wider angle at both ends with the 18-200. I have the 18-270 and find it very useful. The new Tamron 16-300 VR appear to be much better than the 18-270. Depends on what you want to photograph.
Search UHH for Tamron 16-300 for more info from owners of this lens and other comments.

Unless doing super wide or super telephoto, I have the Tamron 18-270 lens on my camera most of the time. It is my do anything walk around lens. Really like it . . .

The 18-270 is almost standard feature on my wife's D90 and it works very well for her. The 16-300 sounds interesting though. You can't go wrong.

It's a little soft at the long end... especially in the corners.

Distortion is present too... at both ends.

It's an inexpensive lens... and you get what you pay for.

I have the Tamron 18-270.
Had it for a few years and got the 16-300 and I really like it better than the 18-270.

I have the Sony 18-250 which I have often used as a walk-around-lens, and it is not that bad. It is often compared to the Tamron 18-250, and is perhaps a bit sharper than that Tamron. I tend to use it when lighting is good and I can stop down a bit, and under those conditions, the results are quite good. I do hear that the Tamron 16-300 is even better.

I think that when you know when it is a good choice and when it is not, you will do OK. But it is certainly a plus to have such a range of focal length to use.

I have the Tamron 16 - 300 and researched it a bit before purchasing it. It had better reviews than the 18 - 270. It is my lens for travel along with a 35 mm 1.8 lens for low light photography. It is a good lens for me as I am not overly critical of the results.

Twice I bought Tamron lenses for my Nikon D90 then for a D7000...never again. Both are in the camera cabinet unused after thorough tries. They just aren't as sharp as Nikon lenses. They are cheaper but if you want highest quality images you always get what you pay for in good glass. I have not tried Sigma but many like them better than Tamron. Any kind of mid range zoom is a great walking around choice in terms of size. I have a canon eos m3 for travel that has an 18-85mm zoom with good glass that is terriic general purpose and I travel with. My D4 Nikon uses either the 28-80mm gold ring pro lens or more likely the 80-200mm gold ring pro lens. Both are f 2.8 and superb. Any lens with a range like 18-300mm is likely to have issues fully zoomed out or in as that is really difficult from an engineering point of view on lens elements to handle it with clarity across that big a range. Some shots are actually best done with a prime fast lens specifically for that reason. I love the 18-85mm Canon lens..it does very well for me and it and the M3 travel well and give me clear images.

I had a Tamron 18-270 and recently traded it in for a 16-300 for my walk-around lens. It was well worth the adddditional cost to move up to the 16-300.

The 16-300 is sharper, focuses much faster, is quieter, and doesn't experience significant lens creep. The added focal length at both ends has been a plus as well.

Really. You prefer a slow lens over a fast prime for low light and DOF control.

I have the Tamron 28-270 for my Canon camera and loved it. Now using Nikon and finally stopped playing around with which lens is best and bought the Tamron 16-300mm lens. I love it. For "me" it's the best walk-around lens. I'm getting great photos with it too.
