What information will the NEF file have that the DNG does not?

I am not quite sure. But the Faststone Image Viewer can show the NEF images.

When I use Faststone Image Viewer to transfer directly from my D610 to my desktop, half of the time the Faststone can't see my D610 even though the Window Explorer can, so I just remove the SD card and plug in direct to my desktop, then I am fine to download.

Don't forget to check on this.
you pay $433 for this certified refurbished from Amazon(no tax which doesn't happen often as I checked it on the order total); it is probably an open box one.

And then have the biggest HD monitor you table can hold(at least 24" and up to 42").
I wish my wife's broke down so that I can have this.

Why use ACR when Lightroom is so much more capable? I admit Lightroom can have a steep learning curve, but when you grasp what it can do, why anything else.

I agree, PS is mainly to do the final enhancement prior to export as jpg.
Why PS:Filter:Camera Raw is there? Is it an Adobe freebie for the people who don't have access to LR?

If you are using Adobe Camera Raw on your raw files, take them as far as you can in camera raw, then use a 16 bit psd file in ProPhoto color space to continue your editing in PS. I would not recommend enhancing a jpeg. With it's 8 bit accuracy, small color space and compression - it makes it least suitable for editing. Better to edit the psd file, and export after all your edits are complete.

If you like the type of adjustment made possible in camera raw, and would like to edit a bit mapped file - jpeg, psd, tiff, png - you have two options - you can open the file as raw in Photoshop, or if you are using CC, you can use the Camera Raw filter.

You do NOT have to go to Lightroom to edit a jpeg or any other bit mapped image in PS.

Thanks Gene, I like what you said about editing a jpeg is least favorable, that would make more reasons to shoot raw.
But I don't understand how to open a jpeg as raw in PS. what is the advantage?
If jpeg file is the only option, is there any reason to use PS:Filter-Camera Raw that PS' normal operations can't do.
For instance, PS:CR's Level function differs from the PS:Adjustment-Level?
Of course the latter is in a layer of which the opacity can be adjusted; or use the former for habitual or convenience sake.

ACR stands for Adobe Camera Raw.

So if I have PS-Camera Raw then I can bypass LR only which I find synchronizing the settings for batch job a lot more conveniently. Agree?
However, I can save the setting on PS:Camera Raw as .xmp file which works like the preset in LR.

Tenny, I view ACR as developing the negative. PS is my equivalent to making the print.

If I just want to do one NEF raw file, I might not want to use LR but to go straight to PS.
Isn't it PS:Camera Raw doing the same job as LR:ACR?

I know if I want to work on my NEF raw files on PS, it would open up the Camera Raw first to perform some settings before converting the image as jpg for further PS enhancement.
Is it necessary to use the Filter-Camera Raw again to do more after a few moves on the PS?
Is it common practice to use Filter- Camera Raw to work on jpg images?

Because they are cheap and don't know better!

Why you eat a hamburger, not the steak? At least I can say, I have beef for dinner.
You can spend as low as $50 and perhaps cannot tell the difference; but you can experience a 360 degree Panoramic Gimbal. Which you might use less than once a year.

We don't pay extra if we don't care about the difference.
Usually is the case, you spend a lot more for a little better.
Most of us don't sell our captures, but just to keep good decent memories or to satisfy our enthusiasm.
If money is no object, I would spend them somewhere else before buying the best gears for my hobby.

Most of the time, the histograms shown in the camera is different from that of PS/LR; so is the light meter of the camera does not always give the desired exposure in PS/LR.
I would like to hear once more who favors for shooting over/under exposed when in doubt ?
What are the pros and cons for correcting an over/under exposed raw?
Does the flashing shown on the camera LED display really mean the information of the area is lost?

Can someone provide me with a reasonable costing speedlight for my Nikon D7500. Perhaps under $150

With $150, you can buy 2 Neewer flash + diffusers + a set of master-slave controls

please show how the set up is used; I didn't quite get your picture.
I don't like to hang my camera over my neck; in long hours, it hurts and become sweaty.
So I hang/attach it to the front of my camera backpack with modified short leash and edcgear hooks.

I have a legit copy of PS Elements 15 and it will not update to acr 10 I believe, so I can not open my raw files from my canon 6d mark ii I will have to update to PS Elements 2018 and I think this is a ripoff. I have been buying PS Elements for the last 5 versions I would think they would update 15 to open the raw files.

You can download the cameraRaw-10-3win.zip; extract it, close your PS, install the cameraRaw setup file.
then your PS will open your raw file. No fee, no question.

If it is indeed LR Classic CC, when you select 2 or more images, you can press the Ctrl+M to perform Merge to Panorama.
You should also have Photoshop CC, which has that same capability in Adobe Camera Raw.

There is no reason why you can't update either, at no cost, by simply accessing your Creative Cloud account (or in this case, your son's who you share this with), and performing the update. I use my software on three devices (laptop, desktop and mobile) simultaneously, which is not supposed to be possible. But both are also installed on my son's computer as well. If I have it actually open and running on two of my devices, he cannot open it, and vice versa.

There is nothing illegitimate about using their software in this fashion. But it does take a bit of coordination.

thanks for your input.
I think I am confused by the name, I do not a online subscriber, I only have the PS & LR applications on my PC.
Now, I have downloaded an official copy of the CameraRaw(free and no question asked) from Adobe and my PS can do Panoramic merge on NEF files.
I just don't know if my LR can do that too.
Thanks
