Nikon Transfer troubles

I am having trouble with a down hold of about 50 photos using Nikon Transfer 2, first let me say this computer is no longer hook to the internet, long stupid story.
I hooked my D700 up to my computer, entered the primary and back up locations, everything the same as hundreds of times previous. When the download was complete and it switched to View NX2 the first image showed up but 5-6 seconds later View shut down, and the folder that I down loaded is no longer where I saved them, both locations, still in the camera though.
So trying to figure this out, I deleted the folder that I transferred from the camera in both locations, then saved the files again just to the primary location. Same thing happens. Next I went and took a picture of the cat on the same card and when I downloaded them all again, cat was there but same thing happened.
My main computer is in the shop, be there another 7-10 days so I’d like to figure this out. In the past I have used this a lot never had this problem before and it has work great.
I then tried to download View to this computer but it is an XP and it doesn’t support View NX2.
Any ideas.

Nikon is a camera company that subcontracts it's software. That being said, why don't you just copy the images from your camera to your card using a card reader and Windows Explorer? I suggest you get better software for reading and editing your images. As a stopgap, download the free Faststone Image Viewer.

View NX2 is the old version. View NX-i is the latest one. I use it to transfer photos from my D500. You can download it from Nikon's website. It's possible it won't work with Windows XP since Windows XP is obsolete.

Copy your files to your computer using Windows Explorer then use it to make backup versions to wherever you want them. Don't need the Nikon software.

When I use Faststone Image Viewer to transfer directly from my D610 to my desktop, half of the time the Faststone can't see my D610 even though the Window Explorer can, so I just remove the SD card and plug in direct to my desktop, then I am fine to download.

Thanks CO, I got it figured out. I just transferred it to one location this time, a flash drive, and then copied them to where I really want them. I don't know if this made a difference but I added more photos today and tried it and it worked.

View must be screwed up because when I tried opening a file same thing happened. I'm getting a new hard drive for that computer so that should be the end of that

As for View NX I tried it didn't like it, went back to View NX2 where I will stay. works for me, goes great with Capture NX2.

I don't see how anything can be obsolete if it works.

Thanks all for your comments

Capture NX2 is a great editor. I still use it for files from my D7000. It's unfortunate that Nikon was not able to continue updating it. When I bought my D500, I downloaded Capture NX-D. It's terrible.

"Obsolete" normally translates "supplier no longer updates it". It might continue to work fine. It might work 95% and fail strangely 5% of the time. It might fail all the time. It may seem to work OK, but provide a security "hole" that allows knowledgeable hacker to get to your images or "tunnel" to some other material in the computer. If you enjoy playing "Russian Roulette" ...
