Hereâs my rig when I go out shooting on the weekend. Strapped in safely but ready to draw When something comes up! :)
My primary camera and lens fit into an existing cup holder.
I can't quite see how you did yours. Are those adjustable elastic straps? How did you attach them"

Velcro straps, screwed in with rubber pads covering them on the other side so nothing gets scratched.
You must look simply awesome when wandering around snapping pics.

Well Bob, I do, but that’s another photo entirely. In this case I am proud of my idea and like a lot of people that come here I like to share those proud moments not just to show off but to maybe pass it along to someone else that might be able to use it. Why do you post here? To show how witty you are by posting snarky comments? Does that make you proud?

One of the techniques that works for wildlife is to use your vehicle like a "blind". The animals are so used to vehicles they don't get spooked. Get out and they may get spooked. The window, with a pad is a good rest for a long lens.
Some of our "elders" (grin) never get out of their vehicle!
Nice proximity to the can of soda....

I hand hold. I find tripods restrictive. Maybe I don't know how to use one effectively but I think it's just that I like to walk around, I don't like to sit still too long. I have a tripod with a gimbal head but before to long the camera is off and I'm moving around. I like to hike or if I'm in a more isolated area I like to try different spots, different vantage points. I shoot at 2000 - 2500 with auto iso. I get good results. You need good light for the best photo's anyway so usually the iso doesn't get to high. If I'm shooting landscape I am usually using a smaller lens. These Bald Eagle photo's are one of my proudest moments with a camera and I wouldn't have captured them if the camera was on a tripod. These eagles flew right at me and I had the camera attached to a black rapid shoulder strap and hanging by my side, I grabbed it and shot as they went over. They were right over my head, 50-75 ft maybe? Can't be sure, but these aren't cropped. bsprague is right, if the situation calls for it I will shoot from the van and rest on the window. My age is already showing me signs that it may be a necessity someday and might be sooner than I'd like to accept! The osprey pictures were taken from the van but I couldn't have rested the camera on the window to get that action. When I'm standing still with the shoulder harness on I can rest. I can completely let go of the camera. But I'll miss hand held shooting when the day comes! I'll be going kicking and screaming!
I love to photograph Eagles too, but I injured my neck badly and cannot use a strap. Do I understand you rigged a holster with Velcro to hold your camera and long lens? I love your shots! I will wait all day for shots like those! Thanks ahead of time. I would think your belt takes the weight

All you need now is a mounted police scanner, CB radio, Cell Phone, and large tablet holder. All facing you. How impressive that would be.

It’s not to impress, it’s to take advantage of what’s available in this modern age. The cell phone is mounted and there’s an app for a police scanner and when I’m ready to to take a long trip maybe I will get a cb radio! I’m just trying to fit in as much fun as I can at my age! ( 62 )
Interesting. Glad it works for you.

As great as all the photos are the last blew my mind. Wonderful shots. Man, I have so much to look forward to when I go out into the field but I just can't react fast enough to get the shot.
Oh, well. I have great appreciation for the posters here with shots like these.

"the camera attached to a black rapid shoulder strap and hanging by my side,"....please share more....send us a pic of what this looks like....i'm 72 and carry a 100-400mm sony lens - heavy for me...and i agree that the gimbal is restrictive and doesn't allow fast responses to prepare for that quick pic!
