best Cheap printers

There are no printers that have cheap ink cartridges. I thought of getting refurbished cartridges from an ink supplier like 123Refills. Even those are at least half the cost of a new cartridge.

I have started buying Premium Inkjet Refill Kits. And recently bought Aomya brand refill kit from Amazon. I can say it was pretty easy to put new ink into the black and the color cartridges. I use the HP-61 cartridges. So, I can fill a cartridge up for about $2.00. BTW, the color of photos match the brand new HP inks.

Photo Presentation

Libre Office has a good presentation feature. It is easy to use. I like the fact you can just hit the spacebar and it will go to the next slide.

High speed sync is not for shotting multiple frames. You take one picture. Set your camera's sync speed to 320*, then you can set your shutter speed to 1/4000s or whatever you need. I usually shoot outdoor flowers at 1/4000s and f/11. Makes for a great flower shot with a black background, even in daylight.

Magazine subscriptions

The best photo magazines come from the UK in my opinion. I have a subscription to Practical Photography which I discovered at BooksAmillion. I think I paid about $80 for a one year subscription, but I think it is well worth it.

There are other quality magazines. Digital Camera World and NPhoto are two.

Good luck with those. I wish I could afford all three.

ND filter VS Polarizing filter

A polarizing filter is only good for about 1.5 to 2 stops of light. You can get ND filters up to about 18 or 20 stops.
I once used my solar eclipse filter (16 2/3 stops) for a long exposure. I had to show a very heavily traveled intersection with no cars. How do you do that without showing the cars? You take about a 20 minute exposure. The cars become invisible.

You can't do that with a polarizing filter. I think the polarizing filter is only good for 2-3 seconds.

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Boberic, it's not just you! I, too, hate the silky smooth rendition of waterfalls. They look completely unnatural. Anything over 2-3 seconds exposure is enough.

By the way, you don't even need an ND filter to get the smooth look. Just take a burst of 6-10 images and combine in post.

To lighten up the background, move the subject closer to the background. You can also light the background separately from the subject.

Also, you can use a translucent material for your background and light it from behind.

Battery Substitute

Yongnuo has the YN5200 battery pack that fits several Yongnuo flashes, two of which are the YN685 and YN968. The YN5200 recycles in 1/4 to 1/2 second. It costs about $80 and is said to last for 2000 full power flashes.

Check out the YN5200 on line to see if your flash can use it. Or look on the side of the flash for a little 3 conductor connector.

Yes. I use the Super-Scoop 3 from Lite Genius and the great thing about it is that when taking a vertical shot, the scoop can be rotated so that the light source (the scoop) is very close to the lens and above it so the resultant shadow is down and away from the subject.

Suggestions for best dark backdrop

High speed sync works very well for creating a black background, even outside in daylight. (If your camera and speedlight have HSS capability.)

Decided on a Canon printer.

You can usually find a pretty good deal on a Canon Pro-100. Excellent quality. Up to 13x19 prints.

As soon as you press the shutter button half way, the VR kicks in and produces a steady image in the viewfinder. I can get a very nice portrait of a squirrel in my neighbor's yard about 75 yards away.

I think the weight actually helps get a steady image.
