Hi jccash. I beg to disagree but not necessarily.
Here's why:
1. James and the lady (I think her name is Emma Boettcher), both got the correct answer for the Final Jeopardy Question.
2. Prior to the Final Jeopardy Question, James winning was $23,400 while Emma's was $26,600.
Based on the above scenario, the only way James would have won is:
He bets all his winning and she bets an amount that is at least $1 less his total bet.
Here's the math for James to win:
1. He bets $23,400 (all) and therefore wins = $46,800
2. She bets $23,399 of her winnings ($26,600) = $46,798 (she loses)
(If she bets $23,400, it would end up as tie. They both come back for next day. if she bets $23,401, she wins by $1 and becomes the new champ and gets to come back the following day.)
Here's the math for how it actually ended:
1. He bet $1,399 of his winning ($23,400) = $24,799
2. She bet $20,201 of her winning ($26,600) = $46,801
Bottom line is, it all boils down to $1 in FINAL WINNING. $1 more and you win, $1 less and you lose.
