I've restored numerous faded color slides successfully using Epson scanners and Silver Fast drivers. https://www.silverfast.com/

Depending on your level of skill and patience the restored scan can be quite impressive. In some cases, details not visible to the naked eye will appear in the scanned image.

I found a box of slides in my attic that are about 50 years old and faded. Can they be restored?

Yes, to some degree it is.

Understand digital and film are two separate mediums which produce similar results. There are things I can do with film that I cannot accomplish with digital, and vice versa.

Is film coming back? Spent 20 years as a film photographer switched to digital 10 years ago never went back to film. No advantage to film

Judging from the last halftime show for the super bowl, they overpaid.

How much do you think the performers are paid for the half-time show? How about zero? The NFL covers production costs, but it doesn't pay the artists. It's nice of them to work for free.

I use what works for me. I've been using their products for over 20 years. Upstrap. https://journeycamera.com
Made in the USA by a very ethical company.

I have used the original "Nikon" straps that came with my cameras, D40, D3500, D7100 and D600, purchased in that order. Since each one has gotten larger and heavier, including the corresponding lenses, I find my neck starts to really ache after shooting for a couple of hours. I tried going without a strap but get paranoid of dropping and damage. My last purchase of a 80-200 2.8 AF-D New to go on the D600, or even the D7100 convinced me I need to come up with alternative. I do use a tripod alot but love to hike into areas for that special look. Would like to hear opinions about shoulder straps or hand straps. I do use a quality back pack but would love to be camera ready to get that perfect shot of the bear that runs me down. Thank you.

I don't buy into it at all. I use M mode 98% of the time. It's the only way to accurately obtain the appropriate Zones I want depicted in the final photograph.

Was browsing YouTube the other day when I ran across a video by Scott Kelby and friend entitled "Why Shooting in Manual Mode is Outdated....". Has anyone else seen the video and, if so, what do you think of his point of view? Not sure I completely buy into everything he says, but he does raise some interesting thoughts.

Pretty much what I did for a photograph meant to highlight the nail polish applied to the model.

In Photoshop you might do it with layers. Duplicate the background layer. Convert the background to B&W. In the top layer, mask and select the subject and eliminate the background.

If you are going to be using a wide-angle lens, I'd forgo the Polarizing filter.

My wife and I are planning a Hot Air Balloon ride in the spring. It will be a 1 hour ride, either early morning or late afternoon, we are more in favor of late afternoon. Likely gonna bring a Panasonic DMC-LX100 camera.

For the in-flight pictures of the surrounding landscape, while I do plan on using a Circular Polarizing Filter, do you have any suggestions on camera settings? Like,

1) Should I use Aperture Priority and let camera set the shutter speed? The camera goes from F1.7 to F16...so if Aperature Priority is recommended, should it be wide open at F1.7 or closed to F16?...or something in between?
...or
2) Should I use Auto or iA (intelligent Auto) mode let camera decide both Aperture and Shutter?

3) Should I use Auto-ISO or pick a low ISO like ISO-100 since it will be bright I would imagine.

Little photo foray before my exercise class the other day. Got a nice sunrise, and a shot of shadows receeding on the Oxfordshire Plain as the sun climbed above the Chilterns. But my favourite of the morning was this.

Various wisps of mist rolling and falling over The Chiltern Hills at Britwell Salome, Oxfordshire.

Just an aside - I sometimes like the look of an image so much that I'll try and find out more about where it was taken. Would others like to see some sort of location reference, and if so what to use? Here's a lat / long that'll work in Google Maps.

In my opinion, I'd go with one or the other but not both. They might be fighting with each other as to who to believe.

Personally, I don't use either. Only a few of my lenses have stabilization and thus I simply forget to use it.

What do the forum members advise about using in-body image stabilization and lens stabilization together? I've found conflicting opinions in my online searches on the topic.

(I use a Canon R5 with RF 24-70 and RF 100-500 lenses.)

Superb results. I have that lens and have used it on my D700, D800e, and D850. Great results.

Some folks have made negative comments about that lens but I've not seen anything but good results from mine.

Got to give it a test the other day flying with the Tiger Squadron up to Ronald Reagan Library to do a flyover for his birthday celebration.
Here are a few shots with the lens.
