Love the expression in #2 - such a cute face. Beautiful colors on the ducks.

It is a personal preference, but generally if there is a waterfall with not a whole lot of water, I like to see it silky - makes it look like more water. If the water volume is a decent amount or substantial, I like to see it "au natural."

Great set. Love seeing the snow in the canyon.

I love how you put people in your shots of Gobblin Valley. You don't know how tall some of those hoodoos are until you get down in the valley with them. Great shots at Kodachrome as well.

Very nice set. The clouds give real drama to that wonderful landscape.

Fond memories of Newspaper rock and the Needles district of Canyonlands. I didn't know about Bluff Fort, so will have to go back to explore that.

Very nicely done. You can't always have the optimum lighting when you visit somewhere, and you did admirably with what you had to work with. I love seeing Wilson Arch with snow on it. The snow really makes it stand out.

How old is the computer? If you still have a 32-bit operating system you may simply not have enough memory installed.

I have 64 bit, but my IT guy said that the disc was looking for a certain program (I forgot what he called it) that computers use to do video and other files like that in the edition 9, but my computer has edition 12, so he thought that might have been what happened. In any rate, I am going try Capture 1 and see if that works.

A stripped down version of Adobe Camera Raw comes already installed with PS Elements (stripped down compared to the full Photoshop version).

For other plug-ins, your host software must be compatible so they can speak to each other. With PS Elements, the process is automatic: it searches for the plug-in (examples: Nik Collection, Topaz) and creates a link to them in the editor. I click on "filter" at top of my work page and they are accessed from there, see bottom of the list in white:

I have been struggling with my computer for the last week, and just have been able to get it back and load up my Elements program. I don't have anything like what you have on your screen shot. Oh well, I love a mystery...................and I know it is solvable.

Unless the CD is physically damaged there is virtually zero possibility that the install created a problem. If there is a problem with your computer it existed before you ran the install.

Take the CD with you. Once your laptop is working again, have them uninstall and re-install the software and you should be fine.

While you are there, pick up a portable hard drive and ask them to show you how to back up your data.

Thanks. I do have a portable hard drive and will take it with me, unfortunately I am not good at backing up on a regular basis. I will have my IT guy check everything out while he has it.
I am soooooooooo out of my element (no pun intended to this discussion) when it comes to computers and IT things, and tend to make do with older generation cameras, computers, software, etc. because they are familiar. I guess that will need to change.

Did you get a CD from Sony with your camera? If so, it should have a RAW converter program on it. If not, Google "Sony RAW Converter" and you will see several Sony, and 3rd party, RAW converters available.

So - I did find a disc, so I put in into my laptop and it downloaded. Then I had to restart my laptop.............. I am answering this from my husband's computer, because my laptop crashed! I give up!!!!!! I am so frustrated that I am in tears...... Will be taking my laptop to a computer guy to (hopefully) remove the offending software and get my laptop back to normal. I am really hoping that I didn't lose anything on it, but who knows. So, now I am afraid to download anything. Not a good day at all.

Both Lightroom and Elements will have little plug-in apps for opening raw files. Might be named Adobe Camera Raw. Because there is no industry agreed standard raw file format every camera will have its own company contrived raw file format, so Adobe must invent an update to ACR. The most vulnerable of us are the one's with, shall we say, elderly image software. I am stuck at Photoshop CS4 but my wallet is happy.

I am totally challenged when it comes to technical stuff, but your suggestion for Adobe Camera Raw plug in intrigues me. How do I "plug" something into to software that I already have?

Is a RAW Converter Program the same as Elements or Lightroom - a post-processing program?

I just got my new A68 and took some photos in RAW. When I downloaded them, they opened in Picasa, then went "foggy" but was able to clear them up in Picasa and they will open in my Photo files in Windows. HOWEVER, when I try to upload them to Elements 10 or Lightroom 3.6 I get an error message that the files are unsupported. Does anyone else have an A68? What software do you use for processing RAW files?

What a great find for you. How exciting. There seem to be a lot of Snowy Owls in the lower 48 this year.
