Consider the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4 - 5.6 IS STM. On APS-C (T1) camera, it will give you a focal length of 88-400mm. Refurbished on sales for $130.00.

It does not matter but you really should do both before any other post-processing. But even before that, assign keywords if you are in LR or any other program that supports them. Why? Because we hate doing them and usually fail to do so later.

In LR, you can set up a preset for the lens profile (I presume you meant this and not camera profile).
I use ExpoDisc for white balance. That is the first shot of the shoot. I set the balance using the picker in LR, the lens profile with chromatic aberration set to on and then synch the entire shoot. If I switched to another lens, then I update the profiles of those pictures.

I'm referring to the camera profile used for the photo, e.g., Camera Standard, Camera Portrait, Camera Landscape, etc. These profiles are located in LR under Camera Calibration Drop down. I'm not asking about lens profile.

Yes, I'm addressing post-processing.

Something to consider: Layers use ram, and cache disk space and depending on the amount your desktop or laptop has, you can run into problems.

No, Photoshop has Layers and you can control what each individual layers does. Each layer is non-destructive and you can turn each off, delete it or control the strength of each individually. You can chose to be destructive if you want by not using layers.
Lightroom puts ALL THE CHANGES in the equivalent of a single layer and stores it in a separate file. Be careful moving/copying files as you can separate the photo and it's changes info....

So, in Sandra's specific situation what would you recommend? Canon 6D and 550EX? The flash will do HSS, but the camera does not have the ability to control it off camera as far as I know. For outdoor use I would imagine it would need an ETTL radio transmitter / trigger combination, not the Canon ST-E2 optical type. Is that correct? Would the Yongnuo devices be an option? Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-YN-622-7-Channel-Wireless-Transceiver/dp/B00BJ4CR5C

If you decide to get Yongno devices make sure you get version II, from Amazon:

Hi, I"m looking for suggestion on how to store my pictures while on a 17-day trip. Now due to space limitation and weight, I do not want to carry a laptop for downloads (plus I would have to keep up with my camera gear, laptop, and luggage). The only think I can think of right now is to many SD cards. Any suggestion? I shot in RAW.

Connie, take a look at the EF-S 55-250 IS STM, this a light lens with IS. Based on what you have, you could leave the 70-300 at home and if you had the EF-S 18-55 IS STM, you would have the range of 18 - 250 mm in just two lenses.

P.S. EF-S 55-250 IS STM is a lot cheaper than the 18-200 and would save you the cost of a second camera.

I own the 85mm, F/1.8 lens-screw the scores-it's an absolutely great lens. I've used it with my T3i, 70D, and now my 7DmkII. Buy it and you'll never look back.

Thanks, I guess I was really questioning DXOMark scoring.

When comparing lenses on DXO you need to make sure the comparison was done on the same body, it's selectable. Different bodies can yield widely different lens scores due to differences in sensors and processors.

Thanks, I was comparing the same body: 70D.

Okay, I wanted to buy a new lens for my Canon 70D, now I have the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. I was trying to decide between the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM or the EF 100mm f/2 USM. When I looked these lenses up on DXOMark, I was surprised to see that the 50mm had a better DXOMark score [22] than the 85mm [19], (the 100mm f/2 score was 23). From all the reviews I have read the 85mm is an excellent lens and some would consider equal to the 85mm L lens. I was also concerned about the focal length since I wanted this lens for portraits: on a 70D the 85mm = 136 and the 100mm = 160. Now based on focal length I'm leaning towards the 85mm, but base on the DXOMark score I should just use my 50mm and save some $$$. WOW! If I had a full frame then the 100mm would be my selection. When I looked at the DXOMark score for another lens I have the EF-S 40mm f/2.8 STM it has a score 19, which is the same as the 85. What I'm I missing? Is the 85mm not high-quality portrait lens on an APC camera?

Since you, already have a Canon DSLR I would recommend the Canon SL1. You already have lenses you can use with this camera and it's a perfect travel camera.

Might be my mistake - In Lightroom 6 you can set the GPU on or off for performance... perhaps 5 is not that way?

Edit- Yep, my mistake, the GPU use under performance is for Lightroom 6 and CC, not Lightroom 5.

Are you sure your lightroom is as current as it can be? Is it 5.0 or 5.5? Possibly 5.7?

I have Lightroom 5.7

Lightroom preferences, under performance....

So that would be (for Lightroom 5):

Edit->Preferences-> [select tab]: General?, Presets?, External?, File Handling?, Interface?, Lr Mobile?.

Under which tab is performance listed?

Thanks

Is your use GPU checked in the performance settings of the preferences pane? If it is checked, uncheck it and try the develop module again.

I can't seem to locate GPU setting in LR , I know there one in PS, which tab would this be under?
