Hi, I"m looking for suggestion on how to store my pictures while on a 17-day trip. Now due to space limitation and weight, I do not want to carry a laptop for downloads (plus I would have to keep up with my camera gear, laptop, and luggage). The only think I can think of right now is to many SD cards. Any suggestion? I shot in RAW.

Baygolf, you can store a whole lot of images on a 64mb card or two even shooting in RAW. I would just stock up on what I think I would need and never look back.

If you have a Wifi enabled camera you could download them to a tablet, otherwise get get some more SD cards.
I have 3 sd cards, 2 x 16gb and 2 x 32gb that was more than enough for my recent 10 day cruise and 8 day train trip through Europe.

Wireless, portable hard drive with an SD slot.

There are a number of "photo vault" types of storage devices. I would stay away from wireless - or at least be aware that some of them I have looked at have data transfer speeds which seem that it would take eight hours to upload a full day's worth of photos. Maybe just get one of the memory card "wallets" to keep them organized.

Buy several 32GB or 64GB cards and you're good to go!

Attached to what? They normally have a USB cable that attaches to a computer or whatever else provides commands / data.

You need one with an SD card slot.

I've taken several long trips, and just carry enough SD cards and bring them home to the computer. Remember, on some trains, you may not have wireless, depending on your location.

I have used a battery powered hard drive with SD slot for several years. Now, however, with the price of SD cards so low, if I didn't already have the hard drive, I would probably opt for carrying several SD cards in a wallet. In fact, I back up my images in both the hard drive and my laptop, so if one fails, I still have the data on the other. I suppose a collection of SD cards, backed up on a small HD would be the best and safest computerless approach.

I never knew those existed. Thank you for the information.

I happen to have an old MS Surface, which was my wife's until she upgraded to something better. Because it is so small/light, as long as it works, I just use that to make a nightly transfer from SD to external disk {I also have a small SD-to-USB device, about the size of a "thumb drive"}. When it dies, I plan to buy a thin Linux laptop, because I do have room for that when I travel.

This or just plenty of SD cards seems the most reasonable to me. Even when I back up to my netbook on the road, I still leave the photos on the SD card so that I have two copies. If you have a camera with two SD slots, you can have it record the same image on both cards as another form of backup (belt and suspenders approach). Using several 64GB cards should provide lots of storage.

I have several of these disk wallets - sturdy, waterproof, cheap.

They're fairly new, but very convenient.
